Tarpon are still here!

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

052410

I am fishing with Paul tonight in Government Cut, I stopped and netted some mullet on the way there. The shrimp are starting to get small and I just like fishing mullet. The winds were just a bit on the breezy side but manageable. We caught a nice Snook first off then hooked 4 Tarpon and some barracudas. We fished a couple bridges an the ride in but had no bites.

I got out at Haulover about 1030 with my wife Lourdes, we netted some mullet and watched as a couple Tarpon blew up on the schools of mullet. We fished around the bay, caught Trout and some Barracudas and had lunch. We did find some Tarpon but couldn't get them to eat our bait.

I am with my son James and his friend Jesus today. I rigged for fishing the reef for Kings, Tunas and Bonita's When we launched the boat it was windy, there a was big storm off shore so we stayed in the bay. We found a school of rolling Tarpon in the Bay, Jesus cast a Twitch n Rap in front of them and had an immediate hook up, he got 2 jumps out of it before it jumped off. We netted some mullet and ran to Government Cut, it didn't take long and we had a couple hits. James rod doubled over and there was a big bust on his bait but the Tarpon missed it. He brought back a scaled bait which explains it all. The Barracudas destroyed all of our baits for the next hour with some spectacular blow ups. We moved into the bay and fished a mullet mud and caught some nice Trout. The wind picked up making the bay a little sloppy we ended up the morning with another Barracuda and a 20 lb Black tip Shark. The amount of boats on the water was incredible so we headed in.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

On hot windless days the Tarpon are easier to spot rolling.
