Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
The fishing got back on track this past week with the winds finally coming back around out of the east. The 10 days or so of S.W. to N.W. really put a dent in fishing and made it tough to find Tarpon out in the Gulf of Mexico. The 2 weeks prior Tarpon fishing was excellent from Cape Sable to Shark River and above. There have been plenty of other species like Tripletails, Rick and Kathy Widener hooked 20 and saw up to 40 running the traps. The also caught some big Trout and Redfish in 2 days of fishing the park, while hooking some small Tarpon in the back country. It's summertime so that's means the Sharks are thick and will eat your hooked fish if you take to much time fighting them. My theory has always been fight the fish with as much pressure as possible and if you loose them hook another. If you loosen the drag and pray that fish will get in the boat that way it wont.
I have heard a couple good reports out of Whitewater Bay, one reported some Tarpon and plenty of Redfish and Trout.
We are coming up on Memorial weekend it a circus out there, a good bet for the weekend will be Tarpon in the Gulf. Find an area a few hundred yards away from other boats and use a pinfish or mullet, Subwalks or Flies. Keep you eyes open while fishing the Tarpon because the Tripletails will pop up in front of you.
