Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

082710

I fished with long time customer Eric his brother Leo and friend Fabio down at Flamingo. We got into a top water bite with big Jacks, Sharks and Ladyfish right off the bat, after 2 hours I said lets try something else. We ran around out in the Gulf of Mexico and hitting the markers and looking for Tarpon. We worked all the markers going north and caught fish on all of them Trout, Jacks, Runners,Ladyfish and eventually Fabio hooked a Tarpon. We hit a couple spots on the coast and got into a good Redfish bite, Eric had a big Snook hooked up but came off at the boat. The Sharks were in in good supply as well and the guys were just loving it. Late in the day we ran back down the coast and got into some big Tripletail, Eric loves Tripletail! We caught 3 and saw about 6 or 7. The amount of fish we hooked today had to be in the hundreds although they went all glamour fish the pulled real hard.

Today, I took my friend Steve Mcdonald who operates Bassmaster guide service. He had his 2 partners from Brazil which operate a mother ship in the Amazon River for Peacock Bass. We started out on the Jack schools with top water again today and these guys loved it as well. I asked if they wanted to leave after a half hour and they said no! Our goal was Tarpon but they loved the top water action. They caught 100 Jacks up 8 lbs. and I said let's go find a Tarpon. I had already netted some mullet and we set up a drift and the Tarpon were there. The one problem with the really hot days of summer is the Sharks are in in in big numbers, we had our mullet in front of rolling Tarpon and the Sharks would beat them to the bait. Don't get me wrong they were heaven with the Sharks, but I wanted the Tarpon! We stayed on them until the tide dropped out and the fish were gone. We ran around and hits all my spots then we found birds diving, thousands of birds. These guys were excellent casters, as I pulled up all 3 immediately hooked up on top water. The surface was erupting in white water as what looked like millions of Jacks busted up Ballyhoo schools. I knew there was a good Redfish bite going on but but we missed it because these guys were having a blast and didn't want to leave. I got tired of running back and forth unhooking the Jacks 3 at a time. The were calling the saltwater Peacocks by the time we were done.
