Unbelievably windy!

Capt. Jim Hobales
February 17, 2015
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am with Nathan his sons Lucas,Tristan and friend Victor in North Biscayne Bay. Nathan wants to his sons some proper fishing techniques while they are young. The recently moved here from France and are interested in learning the bay. The winds are cranking today some where between 20-25 mph and makes it just a little bit tough. Luckily bait was easy to find and catch and we put them to work. I started off chumming the sea walls hoping to find something to pull some line and we did. These guys had never caught anything bigger than small Snappers so 4-9 Lb. Jack Crevalles were a blast. It didn't take the kids long to pick up casting by themselves and of course the loved playing with the bait in the live well. We only fished half a day but 40 Jacks and Bluefish wore them out. They are set for the future!

I am fishing with Howard Kite today the back country of Flamingo. When we left the dock it was 55 degrees but warm up really nice and jackets were off by 830. The conditions were good early and we caught a bunch of Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish on our first stop. The tide was super low and I wanted to run way back into the fresh water areas for some Snook. We made the 35 mile run had 1 boil behind his plug and landed 1 Redfish for the first 1 1/2 hours. We moved to a spot where I always catch Snook but not today, some more Redfish bites and caught a bunch of Mangrove on Rapala Twitch n Raps. They weren't giants but big hits on a plug and good action. We moved around allot the rest of the day but the winds were in the 25 30 mph making it as tough as it gets. Late in the day Howard broke out his speaker and played some great music that's we got into another Trout and Jack bite, there was nowhere to hide today. We ran around today covering 80 miles of Everglades National Park. The fishing was tough but company was great!

The whole country is freezing we aren't so bad. If you would to get out and fish in either Biscayne bay or Flamingo give me a call at 305 333 8149.
