Its windy but fish are here!

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Transitional month!

I have been fishing Down at flamingo and both North and South Biscayne Bays. The fishing has been consistent but the winds have been brutal. Its really seems like we haven't had a calm day in months. I have been lucky and finding pilchards most days and putting them to work by live chumming with them. This brings the fish out of the woodwork and really turns them on. I have used live mullet as well to catch Tarpon, Jacks, Sharks and Cuda's.

The one lure thats really working for me is the Rapala Subwalk, Rapala quit making the Twitch N Rap so I had to find something that was similar, I do have a stash of Twitch N Raps though!

The boys from Denmark were in town and made the best of a tough really windy day at Flamingo. They had a blast with Ladyfish up to 3 lbs., I lost track but they caught 30 or so. Next they caught Trout while sight fishing Tarpon. We ended the day with a 15 LB. Snook, 6 Lb. Redfish, 7ft Bull Shark, Jacks and numerous Spinner Sharks. It was a tough day but we managed allot of fish.
They couldn't get enough but it got late and we had to go!

Mark Feldman and his son Ari fished with me today in N Biscayne Bay. I loaded up on live bait and went chumming all day. It was blowing straight out of the south at 25 mph but we managed a
couple nice Snook and some really big Jacks on light tackle. They
were tired and we headed in @ noon.

On other trips this past week we caught Jacks, Tarpon, Snook, Cuda's, Snappers, and of course more big Sharks.

Tip of the day!

On a last ditch effort in Biscayne Bay, I put out a dead squashed mullet hoping something would pick it up. The wind was blowing 25 and it was late in the trip we just lost 2 fish that peeled off line, one let go the other cut us off. The line started to peel off the reel and 150 lbs. of giant Tarpon erupts into the air. The monster ran us thru a bunch of obstacles and after 15 minutes wrapped around a marker. It was cool, we got 2 jumps out of this great fish.

The conditions are right for some great Tarpon fishing, the wind usually down just after Easter. If you are itching to catch something big or need to get your kids out fishing give me a call at 305 333 8149
