Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
April 1
Today we fished with Dean, Kay and Jadee all from Utah.
We started out trolling the reef with Kay catching a black fin tuna.
Than we switched from trolling to kite fishing and Jadee landed a Barracuda and Dean landed a Mahia Mahia.

April 2
This morning we started out our day fishing with a shared charter with Rich and his son Reese from Atlanta Georgia, we also had Cathy with her son Timmy and daughter Sara from Detroit Michigan.
Today we went right to trolling the reef with 2-planner board running about 45 feet down and 3 baits skipping across the surface.
We ended up with a mixed bag of 2 black fin tuna, 2a couple bonitos and 2 kingfish with Reese's king being a nice smoker king.
As we pulled back to the dock we had Harry from Sandy Hook New Jersey and his guests out for some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.
Once again we started out trolling just outside the reef and landed a couple black fin tunas and a couple jack caravels.
Than after a catching fish for everyone we set out our kites looking for the big one and BAM a sailfish jumped up the bait and we were Hooked Up!
After a good 15 min fight the sail was released in great shape and we ended up with some very happy anglers.

April 3
Today we started out our day fishing with Dave from Indianapolis.
We went off shore trolling and while fishing was slow today we did end up catching a couple Mahia Mahia.
Dave thanks again for fishing with us.
As we pulled in back at the dock we had John from Ohio and Milton from Fort Lauderdale eager to give luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We went right to kite fishing with live baits suspended from the kites.
Once again today while fishing was slow we got lucky and landed a BIG SMOKER kingfish and a monster sailfish. (Now that's some good fishing for a slow day)

April 4
Today we started out fishing with Mike, Adam and Tyler from Saratoga New York along with 3 others BUT I'm sorry but I just could not make out the writing of their names.
All the same we started out trolling out deep and caught a black fin tuna.
Ok trolling was slow so we switched over to kite fishing with live baits suspended from the kites along with a few shark baits also set down deep.
All of a sudden one of the shark rods bent over and BAM we were Hooked Up.
45 min later we had this monster and I do mean a monster hammerhead shark next to the boat.
April 6
Today our day started out fishing with Khefishish, Florercin (This is the spelling that I got) from Miami Florida and with Randy from Georgia.
Once again we went right to kite fishing and YES once again kite fishing paid off with 2 smoker kingfish and one big sailfish.
As we got back to the dock we had Jonathan, Clarence, Leonard, Toney and Rodriguez all from South Florida.
This afternoon we were looking for good eating fish and Mahia Mahia was really what we were looking for. While we never did find the Mahia we did find 6 big bonitos and 7 black fin tunas.

April 7
Today once again we had the former Miami Dolphin wide receiver Marlon Moore who is going to be playing for 49ers this year aboard.
Marlon likes to just get away from it all and has a ball just relaxing aboard the Hooked Up and I've got to say it is always a pleasure having him aboard. Not only is he a very good angler but also a very good fisherman. What I mean by that is fishing is fishing and when it's slow you'll never hear him complain and when it's red-hot he is Johnny on the spot and ready to reel.
Today fishing all by himself Marlon reeled in 6 black fin tunas, 1 Mahia Mahia, 5 bonitos, 1 silky shark and 2 hammer head sharks. WOO thank god he's in great shape!!
Marlon I can't say it enough thanks again for always fishing with us and we are looking forward to our last trip before you go to the west cost this Friday.
Best of luck in San Francisco I really hope you guys come in second place BUT truth being told right here and right now on April the 7, 2013 I really think San Francisco is going to take it all the way this year.

April 8
Today we fished with Spencer from Arkansas and Kevin and Tanner from M.O.
We started out trolling and landing a few Mahia Mahia.
Ok now that the skunk was out of the box we switched to kite fishing along with shark bait down deep.
All of a sudden our deep rod bent over and the battle was on. It was one hell of a back and forth tug a war till at last we had this 80 inch bull shark to the side of the boat.
Nice fish guys and thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

April 9th
Big White Shark off the Coast of Fort Lauderdale
Holly Cow we never expected this and I am sure our anglers never seen this one coming.
Sit down grab a cold one and read this unbelievable fishing trip that happen aboard the (now) World Famous Hooked Up out of Bahia –Mar in Fort Lauderdale Florida.
Today started out normal enough with Linda and her husband Jared from Atlanta Georgia along with their sons Logan and Tanner and their close friends Harry and Josh.
As it tuned out they were all down for a baseball tournament and thought they would take the boys out for a little fishing trip aboard the Hooked Up.
Everything started out pretty much like everyday we stopped by the live bait boat a picked up some live baits and when out to 180 feet of water and set out our kites with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with one dead bonito also suspended from the kites.
Ok trap was set and thing were looking good. When all of a sudden BAM a Mahia Mahia on the line followed up by another Mahia Mahia and than a couple kingfish and one big bonito. Just when you think things couldn't get any better a sailfish popped up and again we were Hooked Up.
It was just one of those days where everything we tried just worked. (And we were loving it)
Than all of a sudden Captain Greg and Captain Paul seen a splash followed by a big tail going back into the water. We WERE HOOKED UP AGAIN!!
I can't recall who got in the chair first but I can tell you that it took all the anglers aboard to mussel this SEA MONSTER to the boat.
It was a good hour and a half to 2 hours till Captain Paul got the chance to reach out and grad a hold of the leader.
That's when everything changed!! Now everyone knew what they had been fighting the whole time A Great White Shark! UNREAL but it was true and there he was all 13 feet of this guessed to be 800 to 1000 pound eating machine.
Bare in mind all this happen just a mile and a quarter from the beach in 180 feet of water.
Now everyone jumped into motion with there I phones and camera and videos all at once. After a few pictures Captain Paul cut the leader as close as he could so as not to leave a long line dragging behind the fish witch reminds me I need to charge Paul for that hook he never got back. (LOL)
WOW unreal never got this much exposure before ABC, CBS, CNN, Steve Waters of Sun Sentinel, and the list goes on and on not to mention the Paul and Young Ron radio show on 105.9.
Pretty cool; I've got to mention Captain Greg MCcauly and Captain Paul Paolucci Along with all of our anglers today were the real stars all of this never would have happen with out them.
I am not a marine biologist nor do I play one on TV but if you were to ask me why this white shark came down to the warm waters off the coast of fort Lauderdale I've got one answer. Blue Fish that's right Blue Fish. Blue fish are normally caught up north where the waters are much colder but for some reason this year over the last week to be exact we've seen schools and schools of these blue fish and I would say that's why we were so furchant to catch this big white shark.

O and by the way the guys that fought this sea monster that were here for a baseball tournament ended up beating MacArthur high school tonight.

Big White Shark off the coast of Fort Lauderdale
April 10
What an exciting yet very busy day aboard the Hooked Up.
We went out fishing with Gavin and Dustin from Rockville Minnesota.
That day started out pretty much like every other day. We stopped by the live bait boat to pick up a dozen live baits and started out to sea when I got this phone call from our local radio station 105.9 that asked me if I had a few min to talk live on the show about the white shark the Hooked Up had caught the day before?
So we started out trolling with our 3 lines skipping across the surface along with 2 planner board running about 45 feet deep with 60 foot leaders trailing behind the planners.
Ok the lines were out and I started heading down wind so I could talk on the phone to the radio station without to much wind in my phone.
So there we were trolling down wind when I got the call from the Paul and Ron show. We talked a bit about the shark and how unusual it was to have this white shark down here off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and why I thought it was down here and so on. The phone call went great and it was a lot of fun listening to the call 2 min after we were done.
Ok back to fishing. Within seconds of the phone call ending we had a sailfish trying to eat our right long bait and Captain Paul was down stairs trying to hook this when I seen another sailfish trying to eat my high line.
All at once Paul hooked the fish on the right rigger and I for the life of me could not hook the sail that was all over my high line. I kept reeling my high line in closer and closer without slowing the boat down while Gavin was just hanging on while his sail just kept taking line. At this point Paul started to clear the other lines and while he was bring in one of the planner rods BAM there was the other sailfish and he was hooked to the planner with a 60-foot leader.
Things changed real quickly as Dustin grabbed the leader and was trying to hand line in the second sail. I switched from pulling ahead on these fish to full reverse and was chasing down Dustin's fish while all the time Gavin's fish was taking more and more line. Dustin did a great job and we had his fish next to the boat within 45 to 60 seconds. HOLLY COW now that was some cool @^$*.
Ok Dustin's fish released quick and now we were chasseing down Gavin's fish. 10 min later we had Gavin's fish to the boat. YES this was a great way to start out the trip!!!!
After some hand shaking and some high fiving we went right back to trolling. I thought I would just hit the redial on my phone just to tell the radio station THANKS for giving us some good luck. Well much to my surprise when this guy answered on the other end I was telling him to thank the DJs for us when he said for me to stand by because they were putting us right back on live. What a fun morning of fishing with Gavin, Dustin and Captain Paul and what a great job done by our mate and anglers.
By the end of the trip we had caught the 2 sails, 1 nice kingfish a couple Mahia Mahia and one big bonito.

April 11
Today we fished with John from Ontario Canada.
We picked up some live bait from the bait boat and went right to kite fishing with 4 live baits suspended from the kites.
We ended up catching 3 Mahia Mahia and one big bomber bonito.

April 12
Today we fished with Bassey, from parts unknown and Derek from North Carolina, Rob from New Jersey, Alex from Ohio, Jeff from Philly and last but not least the bachelor Tim from parts unknown.
Yep this was a bachelor party and these guys were going to have a ball today fishing aboard the Hooked Up.
At first we trolled the reef and caught a hand full of bonitos.
After everyone had caught some fish we switched over from trolling and we went right to kite fishing with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with some shark baits from the kite and down deep.
Ok the trap was set when all of a sudden one of the shark rods bent over and line started peeling off the reel as if a fright train was on the other end.
Tim jumped in the chair and the fight was on. What a tug a war Tim would gain a little than he would lose a lot. Back and forth this went for I don't know how long. Ok it was time for a little help from his friends. We switched anglers 2 or 3 times and than at last 35 min later up popped this big hammerhead shark.
Yep they all had a great time and now they were all worn out.

As we pulled back to the dock we had a regular customer/friend Marlon Moore the NFL player out for his last fishing trip with us before he heads out to San Francisco to start his new season with the 49ers.
We were going to hit the bottom hard to try to catch some good eating snappers and tilefish. But after hitting a few different spots we knew that bottom fishing was just not producing any fish today.
Ok time for plan B we went to trolling looking for some Mahia Mahia. While we never did find the Mahia Mahia we did manage to find the black fin tunas and they were biting good.

WOW fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale just keeps getting better every day!!
Today we fished with Tracy and Kurt from North Carolina and Jason from South Carolina.
Kite fishing had been red-hot the last few days so once again we picked up some live bait and went right to kite fishing.
Today turned out to be another red hot day of fishing aboard the Hooked Up with Jason catching a big Hammer Head Shark Kurt landing a nice Mahia Mahia for dinner and with Tracy wrapping it up with this monster sailfish.

April 14
Another RED HOT FISHING TRIP aboard Hooked Up out of Fort Lauderdale.
We set out on our fishing trip I mean CATCHING trip with Bernard, Christina, Mark and Eric all from Canada.
Today we started out trolling and caught and a bonito, a Mahia Mahia, 1 black fin tuna and a huge Wahoo (40 pound plus)
Holly Cow could fishing get any better??
As it turned out YES it could get even better.
We brought in the trolling gear and set out our kites with live bait out of the kite and shark bait down deep.
And YES we ended up with not 1 but 2 big Hammer Head Sharks.
Yep I guess you could say that this was another RED HOT FISHING TRIP aboard the Hooked Up.
Thanks again to our new Canadian friends and I think we are looking forward to fishing with you again next year BUT this is going to be a hard trip to beat.

April 15
Today we got a last min call from our old friend who has been fishing with me since 1993 Tim Bridges out of Champion Illinois. He was in town with some friends to do a little golfing but since the weather was rainy all day they decided to try a little deep sea fishing instead.
Tim brought along his friends Sandburg from Philadelphia, Dave from Florida and Charles also from Florida.
We started out trolling and caught a kingfish and a bonito.
Ok now that the skunk was out of the box it was time to go for the big one.
In came the trolling gear and out went the kites with live bait suspended from them and a couple of shark baits set down deep.
Than it happen!!! The deep shark rod bent over and all hell broke lose. This was no fish this was a fright train and at first there was no gaining on this sea monster. But after a good 45 min of back and forth tug a war up popped this big thresher shark.
Here is the crazy part about this shark we just don't catch many of these thresher sharks down here off the coast of Fort Lauderdale BUT on our other boat the Hooked Up 2 they also caught a big Thresher shark!!

April 16
Today we had yet another RED HOT FISHING trip off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
We set out on our fishing trip with Stephanie, Jean, (Moetan sorry spelled wrong but could not read writing) and Jeannot all from Canada.
Once again we started out trolling and yes once again trolling off the coast of Fort Lauderdale was red hot. We landed 2 Spanish mackerel, 5 nice kingfish and 5 bonitos.
Ok now once again skunk out of box and time to try for the big one.
Once again out went the kites with live bait out of the kite and shark bait down deep.
And BAM once again our deep line paid off with this amazing force while line was being peeled off the reel at a very high rate of speed!!!
After well over 45 min up popped this hammerhead shark out of Jurassic Park. Now that's a BIG SHARK!!

April 17
Today we had a shared charter with Harold and his wife Cindy from Chicago along with this CRAZY attorney from Manhattan Freddy AKA Noodles. Noodles has been fishing with me for the past few years and yes while he may be a bit crazy I mean a lot crazy he's always a blast to fish with. (LOL)
Ok back to fishing. We started out trolling and catching kingfish, black fin tunas and bonitos.
Ok at this point we had plenty of fish in the box and it was time to try for the big one.
We set out our kites and our deep shark baits BUT the big one never did show up for us today however we did manage to catch a couple of nice Mahia Mahia out of the kite and a GREAT time was had by everyone even me I got to yell at Noodles all day for tangling lines and dropping his sodas on other heads and the list goes on and on!! Lov Ya Noodles!!

April 18th
ANOTHER UNREAL DAY OF FISHING ABOARD HOOKEDUP
Wow, Wow and Wow again this is some of the best fishing I've seen in years off the coast of Fort Lauderdale Florida.
Today we fished with Dave, Mike, Troy and Joel AKA the chef from Michigan along with Chad from Ohio.
We started out trolling off shore looking for some Mahia Mahia or black fin tunas but as luck would have it we never did find any fish off shore.
Ok time for plan B so I started trolling toward the reef.
As we got to about 400 feet of water I could see all the other charter boats fishing the reef and I was looking around to see where I was going to work the reef for some kings and or bonitos.
That's when I first spotted this big log in the water about 15 feet long and a good 30 inches around.
I yelled down at Captain Paul to get ready!! Just as he looked up and asked me what was up every rod got hit at the same time. (JACKPOT) We had stuck gold and now the trick was to A not lose the log since it was sitting so low in the water and B not to let the other boats that were less than a quarter mile away know what we were up to.
So what I did was every time I passed the log and loaded up with fish I just kept trolling a good 100 yards away from the log and I kept the bow of our boat pointed at the other boats so they could not see our Mahia Mahia jumping all over the place.
I managed to keep our secret going for well over an hour before I went ahead and let the other boats know about all these fish.
We ended up with 6 Wahoo, 15 Mahia Mahia and 1 black fin tuna.
Not to mention we threw back at lease 10 Mahia Mahia.
Now that we had caught more than enough fish and now that the chef had our bellies full with some killer food it was time to find the chef a big trophy fish.
So we set out our kites along with a couple shark baits set down deep.
Ok trap set and it wasn't long till we had the chef doing battle with a sea monster.
25 min later the chef had his 102-inch hammerhead shark to the side of the boat.
Now we had the chef belly up on the couch and exhausted.
All that was left to do on this trip was to sit back and enjoy an ice cold Moscow Mule.
(I know you are wondering what a Moscow Mule is well it's a drink and you've got to look it up your self but I will give you a hint you must drink it out of a ice cold copper cup.) Good Luck and if you can't find out e mail me and I will tell you but only if you charter the boat. (LOL)

April 19
Today we fished with John and Jack from Centerville Ma.
We started out kite fishing and today kite fishing was for sure the right choice.
We ended up catching 3 nice kingfish, 3 Mahia Mahia, 1 monster black fin tuna and 1 giant sailfish.
Now that's a good morning of fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

April 20
This morning we started out fishing with Wayne Olson from D & D Beer Company out of Little Falls Mo along with 2 of his close friends witch sorry to say we never did get their names.
We went right to trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running about 45 feet deep along with 3 baits skipping across the surface.
TROLLING WAS GOOD!!
We ended up catching some real nice kingfish along with some bomber bonitos.
As Wayne wrote on our fishing report page (We had a great time) that's what we like to hear.
As we backed into our slip at the dock we had our afternoon trip eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing and as it turned out they also had a ball catching big fish off the coast of Fort Lauderdale aboard the Hooked Up.
We had Neal and Max Zimmerman from Conn.
At first we trolled the reef just looking to get the skunk out of the box BUT we never expected to catch this nice black grouper on the troll!!
Of course this catch was 10 days before the grouper season opened&($@&* RATS.
As we say if the fishing business (THROW IT BACK) But we also caught a nice king fish along with a few bonitos.
Ok time for plane B so in came the trolling gear and out went the live baits along with a couple shark baits.
It seemed like everything we tried today just worked because both Max and Neal each caught a shark.

April 21,
Ok first of all I just am not going to try to spell these guys names but I did get them to spell out one witch was Hajime and 2 of his friends visiting South Florida from Japan.
But I will say that these guys were very lucky fisherman.
We went right to kite fishing and ended up catching 6 Mahia Mahia, 1 Hammerhead Shark, 1 Sand Bar Shark, and 1 BIG Sailfish.

Today we had our friends from Japan aboard again to see if we could beat our last catch on Sunday. While we may not have caught any Mahia Mahia on this trip we sure made it up with sailfish and a bit of bottom fishing.

April 24
Today we had a shared charter with Krysztof and Tina from Germany and Denny and John from Columbus Ohio.
Ok here is how our fishing trip started. As Paul was sending out the trolling gear I was trolling past a buoy when I seen a couple cobias. So I yelled down at Paul to abort everything and get a live bait ready. Without missing a beat or even asking me why Paul got a live bait on a spinning rod and just like that we were Hooked Up.
WOW what a way to start out this fishing trip with a 30-pound cobia in the box in less than 5 min of the fishing trip!
Ok back to trolling and trolling also produced a couple bonitos and one big Mahia Mahia.
WOW what a great way to start out our day of deep sea fishing Fort Lauderdale.
As we pulled back to the dock we had Dennis and Kenny from Philly, Eduardo from Homestead Florida, Ryan from Palm Beach Florida and Eric from Atlanta Georgia.
I've got to say that we thought we had a great morning of deep-sea fishing BUT this afternoon blew this morning away.
We ended up with 4 Mahia Mahia, 2 bonitos, 1 sailfish and 2 Hammerhead sharks!!

April 27
Today we fished with Trey AKA the BULL, Bob, Pat, and Trevor all from Canada.
We started out trolling the reef and caught 2 nice kingfish and 5 Mahia Mahia.
Ok now that the skunk was out of the box in came all the trolling gear and out with the kites with live baits suspended from them along with a couple shark baits set down deep.
As it turned out today was our day!! We ended up catching a BIG sailfish and one bull shark.

April 28
Today we started out fishing with mom and dad Steve and Amy along with their son Cullen and daughter Taylor from Coral Springs Florida.
We started out trolling the reef and caught a couple kingfish and 1 big bonito.
Ok skunk out of the box so it was time for plan B.
In came the trolling gear and out went the shark baits.
Now I've got to take a second to say that between April 15 and the first week on June is the time of year to catch hammerhead sharks down here off the coast of Fort Lauderdale BUT we never expected to hook into a sea monster like this one.
I've also got to give a little credit to those aboard that did a little chumming to help attract this SEA MONSTER
After a good hour of this back and forth tug a war we pulled up this 119-inch hammerhead shark. (Now that's a big fish)

As we pulled back to the dock we had our afternoon trip eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We had Ryan, Ozie from Pittsburgh and Kevin from right down here in Sunny South Florida.
Once again we started out trolling and put a few black fin tunas in the box. And once again we set out the shark baits and YES once again we caught another hammerhead shark. Granted this one was not quite a big as the one we caught in the morning but it was a big hammerhead shark all the same.
