August Bottom Fishing

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
August 13, 2020
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt Vinnie here this week I want to talk about some of the great bottom fishing that we have going on right now in the Fort Lauderdale area. The sunken wrecks off the coast of Fort Lauderdale have been holding a lot of nice sized bottom fish a of recent, most of the shipwrecks in depths of 200 feet or deeper tend to hold the best concentrates of snapper and grouper, we have a great photo this week of a very large snowy grouper that we caught recently on a Sportfishing charter we were fishing a sunken ship wreck in 400 feet of water in hopes of something large, bottom fishing can be very fun because of the variety of species that you can catch at any time. Also daytime trolling has been very productive with plenty of action, there are lots of bonito biting now as well as a few blackfin tuna and kingfish, there are also plenty of sharks around right now also which is always fun to catch if your looking for something large to fight.
This weeks night time report is good, we have been having some very nice catches of yellowtail snapper in depths from 30-60 feet of water there has also been a few mangrove snapper as well biting, we have been doing best when the current is light and going north bound, there has also been a few mutton snapper around also, our best baits for the snapper have been silversides as well as small cut pieces of sardines, we have been mostly freelancing baits back into the current while chumming and having lots of success with that technique, at night time as well there has been plenty of sharks around if you don't reel in your fish quick enough the sharks will get it so that always makes for a challenge, some people call that paying your taxes when you get half a fish back, anyways the fishing this week has been very god and we hope it continues, we would love to have you if your looking to get out fishing anytime soon please look us up.
