Bimini Trip with Capt. Mike 954.522.4773

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Bimini Day 1 East Penn Trip
Wow! I can't believe we are finally here in Bimini with East Penn Manufacturing again. We've been looking forward to this trip all year. We started off Day 1 with Darren and Dwayne from Ellis Battery in Missouri, Mike and John from Midwest Wheel in Des Moines, John from East Penn and Joe from Deka Batteries. As I pulled the throttles back on the "Local Knowledge" after clearing the cut and gliding over the "wall", the trolling lines went out as we worked our way North. After an hour or so it was quite evident that the Barracudas were out in force. Everyone caught one or two cudas, we jumped off a small mahi mahi and worked our way to a deep drop spot. Upon arrival at the "SPOT" I went over how to use the big Penn 130 electric reel as we prepared to send the baits down in over 1400ft of water. The guys were excited as I told them deep dropping is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get and today was no exception. On the first drop we caught three pompfrets, quite an interesting fish that look like giant black piranhas with huge eyes. The next drop we caught another pomfret and after that a giant queen snapper, which I just call "DEEEEEEE-LICOUS", it was the following drop that made things real interesting as Mike winched up what turned out to be a 74 pound wreckfish. After putting that sea monster in the boat we put out the lures in hopes of a blue marlin as our sister ship the "Hooked Up" with Capt. Taco had a big 400#er on but eluded capture. No shots for us on the troll so we called it a day with a bunch of happy campers.
