Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Sean Stevenson, Dan Holiday and Brad Holiday from Florida and Utah chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling the reefs using two deep planner lines with sea witch bait strips and three surface lines with Ballyhoo. There was a strong north current with scattered weeds along the reef. We trolled from 100 feet of water out to 200 feet of water heading to the south of Fort Lauderdale into the current, fishing up the current edge and back over the reef, looking for birds and baitfish. Our first bite, a Kingfish, was in 130 ft. of water. We kept on trolling and caught another 10 lb Kingfish. The next two fish we caught were Bonitas, which we got on the 3 inch drone spoon. We were trolling over wrecks and rock piles along the reef line south of Fort Lauderdale, and the best area was in 150 ft. of water.

The guys wanted something big, so we tried going for a Shark. We put out three baits, two on the bottom and one midrange. It did not take long before we got a Shark bite - an 8 foot Hammerhead Shark ate the bottom bait, and we had this Shark on. Rod bending over and drag ripping out! The Shark pulled out 100 yards of drag and sounded - the angler was Sean, and he did a great job. Each run was less, but still put on a show. After 35 minutes of fighting the Shark, we got it along the side the boat for a photo, cut out the hook, and released the Shark to fight another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
