Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week in Fort Lauderdale the weather has been changing around a-lot, from super cold and gloomy days to days with sunshine and temps around 75 degrees. As for the fishing we had some excellent days and we also had some days where we really had to grind it out to make a box. We will start off with the offshore report, seems that there are still a few stray mahi mahi around no rhyme or reason but offshore around 400 to 500 feet you can get lucky and pick up a few nice sized ones. Earlier in the week there was a few nicer tunas out in 450 feet, specially on the days that are overcast. That pretty much sums up the offshore report as of right now. On the inshore side of things thats where the action has been, snapper fishing continues to be the go to if you want to put fish in the box, larger vermillion snappers as well as some mutton snapper have been biting on our deeper bottom spots around 300 feet. Fresh bonito is the go to bait right now, its going to stay on the hook very well and give you a few chances if you miss the bite. We also this week caught a few nice red groupers that we released, which is good to know for when season opens. Other then snappers we have been catching some nice sized porgies as well. Average size on the snappers right now has been 2-5lbs. On the trolling side the afternoon tuna bite remains to be as close to a guarantee as I can offer. Some days have been better for the tuna then others but for the most part that has been the most consistent bite I have seen on the troll right now. We did manage to get the needle in the haystack this week while looking for tuna, a beautiful wahoo about 30lbs "pictured". Its good to know that all the hard work does eventually pay off, eventually! As for the tuna the small spoons have been the most effective lately specially in a pink color. Fishing them on a planner to take them under the surface is going to bring your bait right in the strike zone. Also very important to lighten your leader to 40lb test it will help you to get more bites. Average size on the tunas has been anywhere from 5-20lbs. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos this week of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For now snapper and tuna seem to be the go to until things change and things can change daily. Sailfish action has been somewhat quiet this week, we currently have a few cold fronts approaching so in all theory this should be the cold front we need to send a nice push of sailfish down this way, so be on the look out for that in future reports. All in all some days fishing are better then others but for the most part we have been having some pretty solid trips lately, busy week ahead but still plenty of availability for the rest of January as well as February so if your thinking about coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you and show you a great time out on the water.
