Consistent Deep Sea Fishing In Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
January 22, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report we have had some pretty consistent action here in fort Lauderdale and Hollywood beach area so we are going to start of on the inshore side of things... The morning fishing right now has been so so which I think would be a perfect explanation for whats going on right now, seems that the trolling is slow unless you can get out super early and bag a few blackfin tuna before anyone else is out there yet, there has been a few wahoo around but as of late that seems like finding a needle in a haystack. There has been a few sailfish around as well but this week we did not have much wind so flying a kite with live baits has been pretty tough. This week in the morning the most consistent action in my opinion has been wreck fishing with live bait for big bottom dwellers like amberjack and the occasional grouper which unfortunately is not in season right now and must be released. We have been having some very good luck fishing shipwrecks in the depths from 200 feet on out to 400 feet which in fort Lauderdale is about anywhere from 1.5 miles on out to about 2 miles. Live bait is key in order to get a bite on these wrecks the amberjacks have been averaging around 40lbs with some bigger and some smaller ones in the mix as well. If you ever was looking for a fight an amberjack will test you mentally and physically they have the nickname reef donkey for a reason because of there stubbornness and will to not give up. Another option in the mornings that has been really great is the bottom fishing for vermillion snappers they have been biting very well this week on some of the shallower bottom fishing spots depths around 250 feet. Small cut baits like bonito squares or pieces of squid is always a good choice. In the mix with the vermillion snapper has been some porgy as well as almaco jacks and some lane snappers. All great on the dinner table very mild flaky meat. Afternoon fishing remains to be the best choice right now if your looking to go out on a deep sea fishing charter, the blackfin tuna bite has been super good and some very nice sized tuna right now anywhere from 15lbs on up to about 20lbs. Trolling has been the preferred method to catch these guys, smaller tuna feathers or squid lures fished on the surface for top baits and for lures under the surface fished behind a planner you can't beat a bonito strip with a mylar sea witch, the pink color in particular has been the go to. This week be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches during our deep sea fishing charters right here in fort Lauderdale/ Hollywood, and remember to give us a like a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. All in all the fishing this week has been pretty consistent with lots of species to catch and different ways to catch them. As we approach February I would expect to see some more sailfish action and possibly some big game sharks moving through the area. I should have a new report soon so be on the lookout, there is availability this week and next if your coming down to fort Lauderdale / Hollywood and looking to do some deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a good time on the water...
