Daytime Swordfish Caught Offshore Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The swordfishing is getting a little big active this month. We fished a daytime swordfishing trip yesterday and landed a 120 pounder. It was a subtle bite on the deep bait. We saw the rod tip bounce lightly a few times, which looked only slightly different than just the normal bobs of the rod with the sinker and waves. Kenny started winding on the reel and sure enough it got tighter. The fish seemed to almost follow the bait all the way up to the surface as the fish never really doubled over the rod or took a run. When we got the sinker up to the surface and took it off the mainline, the fish came tight and put all it's saved up energy into an effort to shake the hook. An excellent stab by our harpoon-man Brian and the fish was caught.

Daytime swordfishing is great in June and the other summer months as the ocean is extremely calm and makes for ideal deep dropping conditions. When you're trying to swordfish deep drop when the ocean is rough, it is very hard to see the bite and keep the hooks in the fish during the fight. Our summertime hookup and landing ratio goes way up. Night swordfishing is good this time of year too because of the calm waters, making it pleasant and relaxing to go out and target these big game fish without having to get beat up by the rough seas. There were some monster swordfish caught last year during the summertime fishing season. If you're looking to come swordfishing in south Florida, come out fishing with us. Swordfish charters are our specialty and we are Fort Lauderdale's best swordfishing charter boat.
