Daytime Swordfishing, Dolphin, Snappers and More

Capt. Ryan McBride
August 15, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Daytime swordfishing has been really consistent over the past 2 weeks. We are averaging almost 2 fish a trip over the past past few trips with fish in the 100-250lb. range. We have been fishing from 1500-1850ft. of water and most drops are gettig some sort of bite. Though it is a lot of work to catch fish in that deep of water it is all worth it once you get the fish to the surface.
We have been having a good run of dolphin over the past week offshore also. Fish from 5-20lbs have been under debris and under frigates and have been feeding well. Best bet has been a run and gun technique and trolling once you find the weeds. The fish under the frigate birds have been responding well to live baits casted ahead of their location.
On the reef kingfish remain on the deep edge. Fish from 10-40lbs have been hanging out on the deep side of the reef and have been eating live baits both on the surface and deep. We have been catching between 5 and 12 a trip fishing deep.
Also on the deeper edge a few sailfish are still around. They usually are gone this time of year but they are still biting in the 200-300ft depth. Most trips are seeing at least one sailfish in this depth.
Wahoo have still been sporadic but hopefully this will change over the next month. It was about 3 week from now last year when we really had a good run on them.
Shallower on the reef the mutton, yellowtail, and mangrove snappers are still biting well. What they lack in size compared to kingfish or sailfish they make up for in taste and the fight hard on light tackle. A few cobias have still been holding on some of the wrecks and we caught 2 this week without much effort.
Can't catch them reading my reports so give me a call to get out there fishing. 954-445-1732 www.conchedoutsportfishing.com
I am still running a mid-week (mon-thurs) special for August $50 off half day...$100 off full day.
