Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Kareem Ezzat along with his cousin, Alexander, from Toronto were saving their money for the past year to come down to Fort Lauderdale, FL and charter a fishing trip. Kareem advised me that they did their homework and read reviews on Tripadvisor before choosing the Topshotfishing team to do their deep sea big game sport fishing. Winds were out of the east at 12 mph, temperatures in the low 80's, with blue skies.

The short ride out to the fishing grounds only takes fifteen minutes till lines are in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL located in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling with two plainers – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with four Ballyhoos and a daisy chain teaser. Kareem's main objective was to hopefully catch a Sailfish.

As I worked the reefs, the anglers caught a couple of Kingfish and a couple of Bonitos. Finally, I found a little rip to fish in. Two kites went up with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. Right Short!!!!! The sun glaring on the water made it difficult to see what type of fish was under the bait so we played him like it was a Sailfish. The bait moved off slowly, stopped, then moved off slowly again and repeated this three times, which seemed like an eternity. Finally, the line started to accelerate fast off the reel, locked up. Let's hope he is the right one!!!! And in two seconds we found out – Sailfish tail-walking on the water – Kareem was over-enjoyed as he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. This was a very large Sailfish – the battle went on for twenty-five minutes as the fish changed directions one after another as I chased him down. Finally, Kareem brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat as Ian, our mate, welcomed the Sailfish on board for picture taking and released to fight again.

With a year long wish fulfilled, it was time to head back to Bahia. The anglers retired in the a/c salon for the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
