Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Robert and Kelly Magee, along with their sons, Collin, age 11, and Jack, age 16, chartered the Topshotfishig team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 2-7 mph, seas running 1-3 ft., temperature in the mid 80's.

The whole family was looking forward to a nice vacation in Fort Lauderdale after their hard work in opening up a new pizza shop in Kansas City. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore.

We started off trolling with two plainers down and four surface baits. With very little current and having problems with the sargassum weeds, it was a challenge for our mate, Dave, to keep all lines cleared throughout the charter. Collins and Jack took turns bringing in three Kingfish, three Bonitos and three Barracudas.

From there I ventured off shore and found a clear area where there were no weeds in 600 ft. of water. A couple of birds started working the area and it looked very promising. One of the plainer rods bent over as the rod tip bounced up and down, line exiting the reel at a high rate of speed. I knew then that this was a Wahoo. For the past couple of weeks, I have been catching Wahoos regularly. Robert positioned himself in the fighting chair, and the tug of war began. After a thirty-five minute battle, the silver and blue stripe Torpedo made his appearance as Robert reeled the fish to the boat. David gaffed the fish as the jaws of the Wahoo were looking for something to bite. The Wahoo measured out 60" long and weighed 63 lbs.

It was time to head back to the dock; the anglers went into the a/c salon for the ride back to the Bahia Mar Marina at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
