Deep Sea Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Capt. David Zsak
September 10, 2015
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Tom Carney, Greg Lewis, Matt Faubian and Hank Sturgis from Orlando were in town for a stock broker convention and decided to incorporate some big game sport fishing, so they chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea off shore fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Today winds were out of the east at 5 mph, seas running 1-2 ft., temperatures in the high 80's with blue skies.

With an eight hour charter, the anglers requested to do some off shore fishing for Mahi Mahi so off we went. Our first encounter with some Mahi Mahi's was on the 58 line where a weed line had formed. We had one plainer down, five surface baits and one daisy chain teaser. As some green hornets attacked our surface baits, the anglers took turns reeling them in. From there the weed line dissipated so I headed towards the southeast off of Fort Lauderdale.

As I approached the 54 line, I found another weed line. I trolled the weed line to the south and could see that the sargassum weed was holding copious amounts of bait fish. We ran across one school of Mahi Mahi's after another, after another. The anglers all took turns bringing in their catch and we wound up with 17 keepers, 1 Weehoo, 1 Cuda and 26 Mahi Mahi throw backs.

With plenty of fish for the boys to take back to Orlando, the anglers retired into the a/c salon to relax on the ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
