Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
The weather of course remains warm here but we actually remain several degrees cooler than many parts of the country and many locations in Florida too due to our onshore sea breezes. A typical day here will have some onshore wind and we are thankful for that. Breeze or no breeze we keep an iced cooler aboard here that is always full of bottled water for our anglers and crew as well. Deep Sea fishing remains warm as well, not red hot, but the overall picture is certainly not slow.
A few Mahi-Mahi this week but again the summer long trend of hide and seek continues with them. Find a good area with bait and current, work it over and hope for a few, but chances are slim that the water behind the boat will become alive with a throng of yellow and blue hungry and accommodating Mahi. Possibly one of the best Springs ever has been follower by one of the most frustrating Summers in recent memory for these Mahi, usually a Summertime staple off the Southeast coast of Florida.
There have been some Sailfish tucked up inside with the recent stronger than normal current. Remember once again this is summer and not by any means peak Sailfish season, but there are some around and always fun. Wahoo continue to be a possibility and some good ones too, mostly inside as well with fewer offshore.
The reefs continue to regularly hold Kingfish and those fat summer Bonito. Some Jacks, Snapper and Tilefish on the bottom on our spots, but the current is limiting those choices.
If you want to put Junior on a shark those chances are pretty good as a bit of current is a plus when targeting them. Being tropical we have sharks all year with these summer time ones usually smaller that the spring time fish, but some big spring time sized Hammerheads have been passing through with more poundage than Dad, let alone Junior. Makes for a nice big fish experience.
