Nancy Roman and friend, Pat Farrell, from Jacksonville chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east, southeast 10-15 mph with blue skies.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off. We started out trolling with two plainers – one #6 and the other #8 – one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a sea witch in front of double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we went with four Bonito strips.

As we trolled zigg-zagging in and out of the reefs ranging from 80 ft. out to 200 ft. of water, the two anglers took turns reeling in their catches. A black shadow appeared on the right long rigger. The Sailfish took a shot at the bait and missed it. Mark, our mate, then enticed the Sailfish to come back for another shot. On the 2nd shot, the Sailfish got hooked. Left rigger – another Sailfish on. Two Sailfish hooked up – no, correct that – one Sailfish hooked because the other one threw the hook. Both Nancy and Pat took turns reeling in their Sailfish. Mark grabbed a hold of the Sailfish for picture taking and was released to fight again.

All in all, the anglers caught a total of 1 Sailfish, 2 Barracudas, 10 Kingfish, and 5 shorts – a very productive and successful fishing charter.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
