Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Mahi Mahi Madness in May — Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report
Wow — what an incredible month it's been here fishing in Fort Lauderdale! The month of May has delivered non-stop action and some of the best pelagic fishing we've seen in a long time. From explosive Tuna bites to nonstop Mahi Mahi hookups and even Grouper in the mix, the offshore waters have truly come alive. Deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale at its finest.
🔥 Pelagics Galore
Every major pelagic species has made an appearance this month — Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, and especially Mahi Mahi have been lighting up the spread. Whether trolling the reef, kite fishing offshore, or pitching live baits around weed lines, the bite has been red hot and our clients have been loving every minute of it.

🐟 Epic Tuna Bite with Garvey and Family
One of the most exciting fishing trips in Fort Lauderdale this month was with Garvey and his family, who joined us for a half-day deep sea fishing charter from 1 to 5 PM. Conditions were just right for kite fishing, so we flew out our kite with rubber flying fish to mimic the splashy entrance of a real flying fish. That splash triggered an aggressive feeding frenzy — exactly what we were hoping for.
The Tuna came up hot and heavy, slamming the baits. Garvey and his crew landed six solid Blackfin Tunas, with some fish tipping the scale over 30 pounds. As a bonus, we also brought in one nice Mahi Mahi to top off the box. A memorable afternoon on the water and a cooler full of meat!

🐠 Allen's Family Trip – Mahi Mahi & a Surprise Grouper
Allen and his family booked a morning half-day charter, and we kicked off the trip by slow-trolling a rigged Ballyhoo along the reef in about 85 feet of water. It didn't take long for the deep planner rod to bend over — and Allen's son Tim was up for the challenge. After a strong battle, he landed a beautiful Black Grouper, an awesome surprise catch right off the reef.
With one solid fish in the boat, we pushed offshore to 700 feet to find Mahi Mahi — and the conditions were perfect. Light east winds and a solid north current had the fish chewing. Doubles, triples — at one point it felt like we couldn't keep a line in the water! We ended the trip with 15 Mahi Mahi caught, releasing 7 smaller ones and keeping 8 of the bigger fish. That's how you fill the box and make memories!

🎉 3 Brothers-in-Law + 25 Mahi Mahi = Banner Day
Don, Hugh, and Walt joined us for an afternoon fishing charter with one goal in mind — action and fresh fish for dinner. After navigating through some scattered weeds, we found a clean rip where the weed lines and current came together — and it was game on.
Frigate birds were diving, Mahi were busting bait, and we knew we were in the right zone. We fished five rigger lines, two teasers, and one deep planner — and every single line saw action. At one point, we were pulling teasers to switch and pitch live baits to fish right on the surface.
By the end of the trip, the guys had caught over 25 Mahi Mahi, releasing 11 and keeping 14 of the best ones. The mate got to work filleting and bagging the fish — some of the freshest Mahi Mahi they'd ever tasted.

🌊 May Wrap-Up
May has lived up to the hype and then some. The offshore bite is wide open, the water is alive with life, and the fishing has been nothing short of spectacular. Whether you're looking to chase big Tuna, troll for Wahoo, target Sailfish, or fill the cooler with Mahi Mahi — now is the time to go fishing.
