Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Trip 1 – Tyler and Friends from Alabama
Tyler and his group of buddies made the trip down from Alabama and booked a day of deep sea fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale. The guys were staying at an Airbnb and had a simple plan — catch some fresh fish to throw on the grill that night 🔥.
We headed offshore and set out a trolling spread of five rigger lines, one deep planer line, and a bridge teaser 🛥️. With lines in the water, we scanned for birds, weed lines, and floating debris. Soon we found a nice color change with scattered weeds — the kind of water that holds fish.
The action came quick! Two rods bent over at the same time — DOUBLE HEADER! 💥 The guys fought and landed two beautiful Mahi Mahi, and not long after, another weed line produced two more. By the end of the trip, the cooler held four solid Mahi Mahi.
Back at the dock, we filleted the fish so the crew could fire up the grill at their Airbnb that evening 🍴🔥. Fresh fish, great fun, and another mission accomplished with Top Shot Sportfishing Charters aboard the Happy Day Today ✅. Big thanks to Tyler and his crew — we look forward to seeing you again!
Trip 2 – Fran and His Son from Texas
Fran and his son traveled from Texas 🤠 for their very first fishing trip in Fort Lauderdale. With excitement high, we left the dock and began working the reef 🌊. Charter fishing in Fort Lauderdale the reef helps us gauge conditions — currents, bait activity, and other signs of life like birds diving or fish breaking the surface.
We trolled in 150 feet of water, a prime depth for Sailfish, King Mackerel, Wahoo, Bonita, Barracuda, and Tuna. The first strike came in 200 feet — a hard-fighting Bonita 💪. Soon after, we found floating debris and pulled in a nice Mahi Mahi, followed by a solid Barracuda on the deep planer line.
After catching a variety of fish, Fran and his son wanted to go after something bigger. We switched to heavy tackle and set out three shark baits at staggered depths — bottom, mid-water, and surface — creating a blanket of scent and oils to draw predators 🦈.
It wasn't long before a massive bite slammed one of the baits. Both Fran and his son took turns on the rod, showing great teamwork as they battled the shark. After an exciting fight, we brought it boat-side, removed the hook safely, and watched it swim away strong into the deep blue.
It was the perfect trip for Fran and his son — action, variety, and the thrill of a big shark fight. A memorable first fishing experience in Fort Lauderdale they'll never forget!
