Deep Sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
After several days of very low wind conditions we have had another late season cool front pass through the area. Thankfully there was little rain associated with this latest system and sea conditions remained decent and the slight drop in temperatures seem to have a good affect on our Deep Sea fishing trips here in Ft. Lauderdale. The wind is up a bit now but the ocean remains very fishable.
We continue to pick away at the Sailfish. These fish are making it difficult to chose a consistent depth to try them as they have been scattered all over the ocean in water ranging from 50 feet to over 600 feet in depth. South of Miami Beach remains the hot spot as these fish are pushing up on the edge there as they make their way south. Live bait has been the key here and there as well as there are few bites from these fish trolling rigged baits this past week. There have been some truely large Kingfish around now for several weeks and that fish in the lead picture came in at 54#. Live bait again drawing the strikes from the larger Kings, but there are decent sized ones biting most days now on the troll with the deep lines.
Amberjacks continue to hold on the deep wrecks and we have had limit catches of Golden Tilefish with regularity. The Blackfin Tunas have backed off for now. We have had Wahoo continue to bite the deep trolling baits in water from 100 to 400 feet. We seldom catch numbers of them here but every trip has a possibility to almost a probality of them getting into the spread and they are a very welcome addition here. A Mahi -Mahi here and there and it is time for these fish to show up in good numbers out in deeper water off the edge. We will continue to hug the reefs here unless we have a good report of them within a reasonable distance from shore as we need to select what might produce the best fishing and the reefs and close in bottom fishing have been the choice. We love to fish the Mahi off the edge but they need to be a bit more consistent for us to shoot offshore and into the deep as it makes for a long charter if we can't locate them.
