Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt.Zsak

Capt. David Zsak
October 5, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Phil Devernay and Ralph from Philadelphia came down to Ft. Lauderdale to do some deep sea fishing and to watch the Miami Dolphins win on Monday night football.

We left the dock at Bahia Mar in Ft. Lauderdale to check out the mullets migrating south off of the beach of Ft. Lauderdale with large schools of Tarpon behind feeding on the mullets. We threw some live bait into the schools and hooked up a Tarpon on light tackle. Immediately, the Tarpon became airborne and did a 360 degree turn in the air. The sun was gleaming on the large scales of the 60 lb. Tarpon, which gave the appearance of a bright diamond. After a 25 minute battle, the fish was brought to the side of the boat, was released and swam away in good health to fight again.

From their we decided to do some deep sea fishing by trolling in 90-130 ft. of water between the 2nd and 3rd reef a little bit south of the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale which holds three wrecks within a half a mile radius, targeting Kings and Bonitas. Mitch, our mate, who has been fishing with me for over 25 years and has fished around the world, has spent most of his life in Hawaii fishing for Marlins. Now back in the cockpit in Ft. Lauderdale, Mitch decided to put two plainers out, both with sea witches on them, and Ballyhoo for surface baits. The plainers hooked up with King Fishes in the 5-8 lb. range, while the surface baits hooked up Bonitas, Black Fin Tunas and Dolphin.

Phil commented that he hoped the Miami Dolphin's will do as well as we did in our deep sea fishing adventure off of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Unfortunately, they did not.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
