Deep Sea Fishing Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt.Zsak

Capt. David Zsak
October 16, 2010
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Today was a good day of deep sea fishing off of Ft. Lauderdale. We started trolling for King Mackerel in 120 feet of water and used strip baits and Ballyhoos and ended up catching 8 King Mackerels off the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale. Then we trolled to an artificial wreck off of Ft. Lauderdale that sits in 240 ft. of water. We dropped a live bait (Goggle Eye) on the wreck and hooked up an 18 lb. Mutton Snapper. With the full moon in another two weeks, bottom fishing for Groupers and Snappers will be excellent.

Afterwards, everyone decided to target Sailfish with live bait. Using live bait on two kites is the best way to target Sailfish because the bait is presented in the most natural way. We positioned the boat over the reefs and bottom structures off of the deep waters of Fort Lauderdale.

Using 5 live baits on two kites, a Sailfish popped up in the spread of baits, an hour and half into the live baiting. The Sailfish zipped over to the first bait, didn't feed, then went deep for about 30 to 45 seconds, which felt like an hour. All of a sudden the short bait started going nuts, and the Sailfish piled all over the short bait. The angler hooked the Sailfish and fought it for about 5 minutes, then the hook pulled. It was very unfortunate not be able to catch the fish, however, it was still nice to have the action and the opportunity in the deep sea waters off of Ft. Lauderdale to see the strike and the first jump.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.

The Sailfish season is here and we are starting to see more every week. With each cold front that comes over South Florida, we have a good bite. Hoping for a cold winter!!
