Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

A Sunny morning here in South Florida - the Sun was bright; skies were blue and the temperature was in the mid 60's - a great day to do some deep sea sport fishing in South Florida Ft. Lauderdale. We had an old friend down from New Jersey, Jeff Brown and his friend Eric. They came to do some Sailfishing on the Happy Day Today. We started the morning by buying some Goggle Eyes from Budd the baitman and headed out.

Jeff and Eric were ready to do some deep sea sport fishing on some light tackle for Sailfishing. I started out fishing with two kites – north of the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale in 150 ft of deep waters. The colors of the water looked good. We started talking about good times back in New Jersey and the different types of fishing we had done. All of a sudden there was a hooked up Sailfish on the right long kite. As the fish line ran out of the TLD 25 reel, the Sailfish did his beautiful jumps with his whole body out of the deep blue waters.

"This is a hot fish", remarked Jeff. After a 20 minute fight, Jeff brought the sailfish to the side of the boat, while we took pictures of the Sailfish flashing his neon colors. "Great fight", Jeff remarked and smiled – now it's Eric's turn. A half hour later the left long kite let out – it is not a Sailfish – it is a Smoker King, as he jumped out of the water 15 feet – a good size. Mitch, our mate, gaffed the Smoker King fish and put him in the fish box – nice job Eric!!

Not too long afterwards, the right short kite let out – it is a Sailfish!! Hooked up, the Sailfish tail walked towards the boat showing all of his strength. After a 15 minute fight, he was brought to the side of the boat, ready for his pictures to be taken and then leaving smiling.

We headed back from our 4 hour deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
