Deep Sea Fishing in Ft.Lauderdale on Happy Day Today/Capt. Zsak

Capt. David Zsak
January 31, 2011
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past couple of days the winds were out of the north northwest, 10-15 mph, temperature in the mid to low 60's. Sailfish action dropped off slightly this week but was replaced with King Fish, Black Fin Tunas and Wahoos.

The majority of the King fish were caught in 100-180 ft. of water off of Ft. Lauderdale sea buoy here in South Florida by running two plainers; one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drome spoon and the other with a bonita strip with a pink sea witch.. The Tuna fish action was in the depth of 200-350 ft. of water, ranging from 3-15 lbs. in size - Ballyhoo surface baits were used to hook up the Tunas. The Wahoos were hooked up in 120 ft. to 450 ft. of water right off of Ft. Lauderdale South Florida, again using the two plainers.

The deep sea fishing for Sailfish was shallower this week – the range was from 100-160 ft. of water – the majority of the Sailfish were caught on live bait.

The Cobias have been hooked up migrating in 40-60 ft. of water off of South Florida Ft. Lauderdale. The salt water deep sea fishing for Amberjacks and Groupers have been showing up on the majority of our local artificial wrecks. Live bait is the most productive way to hook up these fish.

Our next cold front will be coming in this week which should be the turning point for the return of the Sailfish.
