Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Vincent Christopher from the state of New York combined a business trip with a deep sea salt water fishing charter in South Florida Ft. Lauderdale on the Happy Day Today. After taking care of business the day before, Vincent showed up at 6:30 am to squeeze in a fishing charter before flying back home that afternoon. Vincent's object was to catch a Sailfish and Shark, so we visited Bud our baitman and purchased a dozen Goggle Eyes. Once we left the dock at Bahia Mar, 15 minutes later we had lines in the water.

I trolled down to the south to position myself over some local wrecks we have here in Ft. Lauderdale known for good Shark fishing. We put out two kites with two baits on each kite and a Bonita as a Shark bait on the bottom. Immediately we got attacked by three Mahi Mahi's. With Vincent being the only angler on the boat, he was kept busy bringing in one fish after the other until he brought them all in.

As we were getting the kites set up again, our Shark bait rod bent over and the line screamed off of the Shamano 80 wide reel. Vince got set up in the fighting chair, strapped in to do battle. After 25 minutes on the unlimited rod with 25 lbs of drag and to my and Mitch, our mate's, amazement, a 7 ft. Tiger Shark estimated to be 250 lbs came to the surface. A Tiger Shark is one of the top predators in the ocean and is extremely dangerous. As Mitch grabbed a hold of the leader and with the razor sharp teeth of the Tiger Shark thrashing from side to side, I yelled for Mitch to be extremely careful. Vince picked up his camera and with a proud smile on his face, he took pictures of his amazing catch.

We released the Tiger Shark, and Mitch started getting set up for our Sailfish catch by baiting both kites and a rigger with live Goggle Eyes. Not to long after the rigger line came down, the Sailfish came up and started tail walking towards the boat while Vince wound faster to keep the line tight. The Sailfish settled down and Vince worked the fish, bringing the Sailfish to the boat allowing him to take pictures of the magnificent Sailfish. Immediately afterwards we released the Sailfish and he happily swam away.

Since Vincent caught his two dream fish - a Shark and a Sailfish - he was ready to catch his flight home, so we headed back from our deep sea fishing charter trip to the dock at Bahia Mar, in South Florida, Fort Lauderdale. This ends another successful and adventurous fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
