Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
This morning as we left the dock to do a salt water deep sea fishing charter on the Happy Day Today in Ft. Lauderdale, South Florida, the sun had already risen about ½ hour ago. The color on the horizon was orange and yellow with blue skis above, making it a picturesque view. Veritable winds were out of the east off of Ft. Lauderdale South Florida.
Andy McDonnell and wife, Claire, from Maine along with two other couples chartered the Happy Day Today to do some sport deep sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale South Florida. The following day they were meeting five other couples to cruise the Caribbean on the Allure, but these three couples wanted to begin their vacation with an adventurous day of deep sea fishing.
We started off trolling with two plainers and four Ballyhoos for surface baits. On the plainers we had a 3 ½ blue reflector drome spoon with a 100 ft. trace and a blue and white sea witch with a Bonita strip. My plan was to do some live baiting for catching some large King fish, called Anacondas. This past week some 20-30 lb King fish were caught on live bait. We started trolling in 120 ft. of water off the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, South Florida hooking up with some medium size King fish.
Our right plainer with the 3 ½ spoon bent over and the line screamed out. This might be a nice Wahoo! Andy was the angler, and as he reeled in the fish I could see it was a large Anaconda. Mitch grabbed the leader to wire in the fish and gaffed him – he could barely lift the fish over the covering board. His razor sharp teeth were snapping back and forth, everybody backed off of Mitch to give him more room. The Anaconda weighed in at 38 lbs! I trolled to the wreck for live baiting, set up our kites with live Goggle Eyes and hooked up with Bonitas and King fish, but none as large as the one we caught trolling.
It was time to start heading back from our deep sea salt water fishing charter to the dock at Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale South Florida. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing excursion on the Happy Day Today with Captain Zsak.
