Deep Sea Fishing In May

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
May 1, 2023
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, we have another great report this week of some fantastic deep sea fishing right here in the Fort Lauderdale area. To start off the report this week we will begin with our inshore fishing, as of late there has been some really good action in the early mornings primarily for king mackeral, the king mackeral have been biting very well in depths from 80 feet on out to 150 feet of water, there has also been some bonitos biting in these depths as well as the occasional sailfish. The weather lately has had some very light winds and calm seas so trolling has been primarily the best way to get some action, a few surface baits on top consisting on smaller squid imitation lures and some bonito strips fished behind sea witches fished on a planer in order to take the bait under the surface has been a deadly combo for all types of fish specially with what is biting right now. Moving a little deeper for an offshore report, on certain days that we have had the correct conditions and what I mean by that is north current with some blue water there has been some blackfin tuna action early in the mornings and later in the afternoons, seems if those conditions are available in the early mornings there has been a very good chance for wahoo, as stated above trolling remains the preferred technique for all the fish biting right now in the fort Lauderdale area. One last fish that is on the radar but has primarily been hit and miss is mahi mahi, now it is early in the season for these guys and finding numbers of them is almost impossible right now, there has been some single loaner fish that have had some size which in my opinion a good sign for whats to come. Last but not least if trolling is slow there still has been some good shark fishing available as well as wreck fishing for fish like amberjack and grouper that is just starting to heat up. This week please be sure to check out some great pictures of some recent catches we have had while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. A few busy weeks coming up ahead but there is still some availability if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you and show you a great time out on the water... more later
