Deep Sea Sport Fishing Fort Lauderdale

Capt. David Zsak
June 6, 2016
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale with Topshotfishing and Capt. Zsak

Amanda and Mike Blacken along with their friends from Nebraska just got off of a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean. Looking to spend more time on the water, they chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea big game sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Winds were out of the east at 12-16 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperatures in the low 80's.

With Captain Nate at the helm, we stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait located in the inlet in Fort Lauderdale. We went immediately into kite fishing in 150 ft. of water south of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where a color change was forming from a clean green to an indigo blue, a perfect avenue for any predator to travel down. Our first strike was a swing and a miss – a Kingfish skyrocketing out of the water cutting the live Goggle Eye in half. After resetting, a Sailfish appeared on the right short – very lethargically and not interested in the bait. Dave, our mate, pulled the bait up and down to make the bait fish splash in the water and entice the Sailfish. But to no avail – the Sailfish just swam away. That Sailfish was just not hungry!!! Our next fish was a Mahi Mahi as Amanda brought in her first Mahi Mahi – her five month's pregnancy did not stop her from succeeding in bringing in her fish. We reset in the same color change area and this time three more Mahi Mahi's appeared – a triple header as the rest of the anglers reeled in their Mahi Mahi's. Dave, our mate, did an excellent job untangling the lines to catch all three Mahi Mahi's.

With a smile on all the anglers face, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the Bahia Mar Dock, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
