Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Dolphin have been the highlight of the reef the past 2 weeks off Fort Lauderdale. We have been catching up to a dozen fish in a half day while kite fishing on the reef. While the average fish has been schoolie size every trip we have hooked fish in the 10-20lb. range. These fish have been spread out from 350ft all the way in to 40ft on top of the reef chasing ballyhoo.
When the current has been right we have been having good shots at Sailfish off Ft. Lauderdale. We have been averaging 2 fish per trip and when the current shifts north that goes up to 5. The majority of the these fish are still up off Palm Beach but we are getting another front this weekend to hopfully bring them too us off Lauderdale.
While kite fishing we have also been catching a lot of Silky sharks. While a hassle for some they keep the bite going when things get slow and are really fun to watch and tease with live baits. Bonitas are still biting especially around the outgoing tide lines, wrecks and outfalls. Kingfish have been biting pretty good though we haven't been catching as many while fishing mono leaders for sailfish.
Kingfish have also been on the beach eating the spanish mackeral. We have been catching and releasing these fish as they are the bigger breader fish and don't taste good anyway.
On the bottom the groupers are schooled on the wrecks. If you can find a wreck that isn't loaded with sharks the bite has been fantastic. We only have till the end of the year to keep these tasty fish off Fort Lauderdale so it is a great time to book a bottom fishing trip.
Offshore the swordfishing off Ft. Lauderdale has been great. Both daytime and nighttime has been drawing multiple fish per trip.
