Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
The fishing has been excellent this week in Fort Lauderdale. There is a big variety of fish to go after out there. Mahi-Mahi and wahoo are biting great on the troll. They are extremely popular fish to go after, both good eating and good fighting. Tunas are biting too, especially in the afternoons. The tunas are popping up later in the day and they are busting bait on the surface. You can see them in big schools out there in 100-400ft of water.
The snapper bite on the drift boat has been excellent this week too. There are yellowtails, mangroves and muttons biting. The muttons are biting best on the afternoon trips and the yellowtails and mangroves are biting best on our night anchor trips. The action has been outstanding. The photo of the big pile of fish above is from one of our night trips the other night. Trips are averaging 40-100 snappers a trip, most of them keepers and a lot of other bottom fish mixed in... grunts, porgies, jacks, groupers, etc.
Wreck fishing on the charter boats is going great too. Lots of big jacks are biting on the 200-300ft wrecks. This is the amberjack time of year, from now until late June, when the jacks take over the deep wrecks. Sometimes when fishing the wrecks, we may also hook into cobia or big groupers. Groupers will be coming back into season soon... May 1. I can't wait! The fishing is great this month in Fort Lauderdale, so come on out and catch 'em while you can. Good luck to everyone fishing this week. Sea ya on the water.
