Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
The largest drift fishing tournament in Fort Lauderdale was held yesterday aboard the Catch My Drift in Fort Lauderdale. It was hosted by Get Some Fishing LLC and there was over $5000 awarded in cash prizes as well as $2500 raised to support OIC of South Florida charity. We had all the best drift fishermen in south Florida fishing with us for some good prize money, trophies and awesome prizes.
In a 6 hour trip the catch ended up being 12 mutton snappers, 6 mangroves, 15 lane snappers, 9 yellowtail snappers, 6 red groupers, 1 strawberry grouper, 8 bluefish, 1 nice kingfish, 15 or more grunts, 1 very large trumpetfish, 2 flounders, 1 bonito and some random stuff like triggerfish, pufferfish and other reef fish. It was a fun event and everybody caught fish. Johnny from the Floridian Restaurant took home the top prize for the most keeper fish caught. Gene from Coastal Angler Magazine of Fort Lauderdale came out to photograph the trip. Below are a small sampling of his pictures from the day.
It was a fun trip to fish the reefs of Fort Lauderdale, drift boat style. We had some talented anglers aboard the trip from all over including the Profishn't Fishing Team, couple guys from the Tug My Rod fishing group, the Heavy Hitters fishing grouper and some other very skilled drift boat fishermen. Thank you to all who came, especially Steve from Get Some Fishing LLC who organized the event. I look forward to the next event because this one was heck of a lot of fun! Tight Lines,
