End of May Fishing Hooked Up in Ft Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

May 20
Ok today we had a really cool charter with some folks who do quite a bit of fishing on their own back in Jasonville Florida.
We had Michael from Atlanta Georgia, Sean AKA (Captain) from both Jacksonville and from St Augustine Florida, Donnie also from St Augustine, Another Sean AKA (Seanfish) and last but not least the prettiest member on our fishing trip Christie AKA (FishBait) from Jacksonville.

They were all in South Florida on a business convention and they all worked for Silk Road Technology. Now while I may not know a lot about what they do I will say that having spent 6 hours with them they knew their @#$@% and a nicer bunch of folks you would be hard pressed to find.

Will the good new and the bad news all in one was that if fishing was going to be a bit slow these were the people to spend the day with. # 1 they were all fisherman and they knew why its called fishing and not catching and second they were going to have a ball weather the fish bit or not.
However we did manage to catch a few fish.
We started out trolling catching only one kingfish but once we had worked our way to the south we brought in the trolling gear and tried a deep drop on a wreck and things started out good with us catching and releasing a 30 pound amber jack.
Than we dropped a couple more times and while we were getting the bite we were not hooking the fish.
Ok Captain Greg was working the cockpit today and he wanted to try one more drop using a smaller live bait and by god it worked and before we knew it we had caught and released a few nice amber jacks.

Ok enough of that so we went off in search of some snapper's or groupers.
We started dropping down deep (440 feet down) and while we never did find any snappers we did manage to keep everyone busy catching sand tiles.
We did set the kite out with a couple of live baits suspended from them hopping to get lucky and maybe catch a dolphin fish or two but they never did come threw for us.
Michael, Capt, Donnie, SeanFish and of course Fishbait thanks again you guys truly are first class and I hope to fish with you guys in JAX some time.

To all of the folks that follow my fishing reports I am sorry that I've let the reports fall so far behind.
I was fishing in Kona Hawaii with my son aboard the Unbelievable witch is the boat my son works on.
This trip turned out to be one of the best vacations my family has ever had and my daughter even ended up catching this little fish.

Once I got back in town I had to jump on the Hooked Up and headed right over to Bimini in the Bahamas and fished for another 10 days so to say I've been a bit busy would be an understatement. However I am back and am going to catch up with all the reports as quick as possible.
Thanks again to all the people out there that follow my reports and now I going to get started on the reports and there will be a report on my daughter Samantha's little fish.

What a great fishing trip we had today.
We had Jerry and his 4 sons Jerry, Tom, Tim and Bill all from Long Island New York.
We did some trolling and some deep drops on one of the shipwrecks that lay in about 185 feet of water.
It seemed everything we tried today seemed to pay off for us with Jerry the son catching a 84 inch sailfish, Tom catching a big Greater Golden Amber Jack, Tim also catching a nice Amber Jack and big landing a small black fin tuna.
Jerry and the rest of the family thanks sooooo much it was a blast fishing with you guys and we hope to fish you guys again soon.

Today we started out the day fishing with Allen, Pablo, Tommy and Alvaro.
Good eating fish was what we were targeting today so we decided to start out trolling the reef and ended up catching 10 black fin tunas 2 kingfish and one bonito.
Not a bad way to start out the day.

As we got back to the dock we had Marty, Mona, Na and Maichou eager to give their luck a shot aboard the Hooked up off the coast of South Florida.
Once again we started out trolling and catching a couple black fin tunas and a nice kingfish. Than we set a live bait out over a deep ledge and also landed a big 45-inch barracuda.
Thanks again to all of our anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we started out with Bill, Mona and Campbell all from New York.
We started out with a little trolling over the reef catching a few kingfish and 2 big bonitos.
Ok so now that we had the skunk out of the box it was time to try for the big one.
So in came all the trolling gear and out went our kites with 3 live baits suspended from them along with one big shark bait also suspended from the kites. We also sent a couple big shark baits down deep.
Ok so now the trap was set and before we knew it BAM one of the big shark rods bent over and we were Hooked Up.
Bill jumped in the chair and the fight was on. It was a back and forth tug a war for a good 25 min but @ last Bill got his 7 foot hammerhead shark to the boat.
What a ball we had fishing with these guys!

Today we loaded up the boat and got Cindy, Adam, Kevin and Ben all from Florida aboard and headed off shore for some deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We started out trolling the reef and I've got to say that the kings were SNAPPING we had a box full of kings in no time along with a nice Wahoo.
Not only did we have the skunk out of the box we had a box full.
We ended the trip trying to bait this MONSTER Great Gray Hammerhead shark but this monster did not get this big being dumb and all we could get him to do was sniff our bait but he wanted nothing to do with our hooks.
Who knows this might have been for the best because this fish was at least 12 foot long and it was just fine watching him swimming around and not on the line. (LOL)
Thanks again guys we had a ball fishing with you and we hope to see you again soon.

What a great day of catching!!!
Today we had Sanna, Mikko, Kristian and Anth all from Finland and yes I did spell all these names correctly. (LOL)
We started out trolling on the reef and the kingfish were just chewing the bottom out of the boat. Before we knew it we had our limit so we tried slow trolling live bait over a shipwreck and BAM we caught a 50-inch barracuda.
Well it just seemed like everything we tried today worked so we decided to try some deep bottom fishing for some good eating fish and we ended up with 5 nice snappers and 20 big tile fish.
What a great day of catching!!
Thanks again to all of our anglers today.

Today we started out fishing with Jason, Charlie, Greg, Brain, Ryan and Ruben all from Miami Lakes in Florida.
The last few days trolling the reef has produced a lot of fish and today was no exception!
We trolled our way down to the south and ended up catching 4 nice king fish, 1 black fin tuna and I don't know how many bonitos.
After trolling we did set up to do some big game fishing for sailfish ob big sharks and while we did have a big shark on he somehow got off the hook.
All in all it was a good fun trip and guys thanks so much for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we started out fishing with Linda and Rick from Louisville Kentucky, Eric and Cindy from Charlotte North Carolina, and Chris and Kathy from Carthage Indiana.
We started out trolling the reef again but today the reef fishing slowed down and we only caught a couple of bonitos.

As we got back to the dock we had Kate, Dave, Daren, Scott and Larry all from Minneapolis waiting to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing off the coast of South Florida.
Once again we stared out trolling the reef and this afternoon the reef showed a little more life.
We caught 6 bonitos, a couple of black fin tunas and a nice kingfish.
Ok so we had the skunk out of the box so next we tried slow trolling live baits over a shipwreck and Dave caught a nice barracuda and right after that Scott also caught a barracuda.
Guys I know fishing was a bit on the slow side today but all the same nice going on your barracudas and we sure hope we get to take all of you out again soon.

Today we started out fishing with Vinnie, Nave, Christina, Nev, Marta and Boner all from Boca Raton Florida.
We started out trolling the reef and we caught a few kingfish a few bonitos and one dolphin fish.
After trolling we started kite fishing but due to the wind ob lack there of we had a tough time flying the kites.
All in all we had a good time and fish was on the menu for all.
Thanks again guys I know fishing was on the slow side today but we will make it up to you on our next trip with you and thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

More Fishing Reports:

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
