Eric Cheona and Evelyn Zhao, living in Colorado but originally from Singapore were killing time and looking for something to do before their flight out to Colorado at 5 pm. So they decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two plainers down – one a #6 and the other a #8 – each one with mylar sea witches and double hooked Bonito strips behind them, along with four Bonito strips for surface baits. As we trolled the reefs, Eric and Evelyn took turns reeling in their catches.

I noticed some birds working the area to the east of Fort Lauderdale so I headed out towards that area. Right long!! Eric was the angler and brought in a Black Fin Tuna. Then the plainer rod bent over – Evelyn was the angler and reeled in a 17 lb. Black Fin Tuna. We started to head back to the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale as the right rigger came down – Sailfish. The Sailfish came out of the water tail-walking as if he was the bunny from the Eveready battery commercials. Eric was our angler as he hopped into the fighting chair to do battle. After a twenty minute fight, Eric accidentally put the reel into free spool and back-lashed the line – I don't have to say anything else – that was the end of the Sailfish.

It was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, our mate, Mark, filet out the Tuna and Kingfish for them to eat before taking their flight. As Eric and Evelyn got off the boat, they remarked, "This was a great way of spending and killing time while waiting for our flight."
