Fort Lauderdale fishing Aug 2009

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fort Lauderdale fishing report: August 09
August fishing has been strong. Our Ft Lauderdale charter fishing trips have produced good numbers of fish for our clients. Wahoo fishing has steadily improved and many of these fish are better than 30#.This time of year we catch the majority of our Wahoo on deep lines while trolling. Many are incidental catches while Kingfishing, but we often target them exclusively. Great game fish, and they are here. Sailfishing has improved as expected and the majority of the sailfish caught in August are full grown fish. Good sized Wahoo and fully grown Sailfish can (and usually do) offer a strong fight, and we welcome their presence and the opportunity to catch them this month. On many days Bonito seem to be everywhere on the reefs. Kingfishing has slowed from last month but still remains good. Sharks are scattered at best but their numbers will shortly improve on the inshore reefs if they follow the trends of years past. Dolphin continue to, for the most part, remain far offshore and an all-day charter is the ticket more than ever as the Summer progresses. A charter combining Dolphin and Swordfish
is a popular choice for those wanting to fish the purple/blue Gulfstream water.
