Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Just another typical gorgeous day in Fort Lauderdale FL with prevailing winds out of the east at 8 mph and a moderate chop.

Chris DeFrancis and family from Texas chartered the Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing to do some deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale FL. Chris, Jr., at the ripe old age of 9 years old, was looking forward to this fishing excursion. With that in mind, we headed towards the drop off which is 1.8 miles from the Fort Lauderdale shore that sits in 120 ft. of water - to the south, the drop off sits 7 miles off of Miami shore and to the north off of Palm Beach, it sits 11 miles. When you leave the dock, it takes 15-20 minutes to put lines in the water off of Fort Lauderdale.

Two plainers rods - one with a drome spoon and the other with a sea witch - and four Bonito strips for surface baits in the water covers a good spread. As the right long outrigger came down, line peeling off the reel, Mitch handed the rod to Chris, Jr, who was sitting in the fighting chair waiting to fight a fish. He reeled in a 12 lb Bonito which put a smile on his face. After catching numerous Kings and Bonitos, Chris, Jr. took a short nap to get energized once again. Mitch woke him up in time to reel in the last fish – an 8 lb. Black Fin Tuna. His dad was happy that Chris Jr. allowed him to catch a couple of Bonitos and King fish too.

With a good catch of fish on the charter boat Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing, it was time to start heading back from our deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL to the dock at Bahia Mar. This ends another successful and adventurous deep sea fishing charter on the Happy Day Today/Topshot Fishing with Captain Zsak.
