Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Winds were out of the north, northeast, 10-14 mph, seas 3-5 ft. with blue water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL.
Aaron Felchtam and the Hungarian Water Polo Champions from Hungary chartered the Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL. Within 20 minute from the dock in Fort Lauderdale FL, we were in our fishing grounds, which is 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. With a good catch of fish from this morning's fishing charter trip, I decided to head back to the same area where there are numerous artificial wrecks of off Fort Lauderdale Fl.
We put two plainers down, a #3 drone spoon on one plainer and on the other a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip and four surface baits – two swimming Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips with sea witches in front and a quarter ounce yellow and green jap feather far down the center. King Fish were still biting, most of them being caught on both plainers, so I worked the artificial wreck area in Fort Lauderdale FL in pursuit of more King Fish. We picked away at more Kings, mixed in with Barracudas. All of a sudden our plainer rod with our #3 drone spoon bent over with the line exiting the reel at a fast speed. We watched the rod tip bounce up and down on the initial run, which was a good indicator that a Wahoo was on the end of the line. Felix, one of the water polo champions, was the angler and within a 15 minute battle, Mitch, our mate, leaned over to gaff a Wahoo weighing 32 lbs. Wahoos are noted to be the fastest swimming fish in the ocean, clocked at 64 mph, besides being one of the best eating fish.
As we started to troll back to the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale FL, a couple of 5 lb Mahi Mahi's were reeled in. It was time to go back to our dock, so as we started to reel in our surface lines, our plainer rod with a Bonito strip screamed line out again. To our surprise, at the end of the line was a 4 ft. Reef Shark, which we released after picture taking.
With a good catch of fish on board the charter boat Happy Day Today Topshot Fishing, it was time to start heading back from our deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL to the dock at Bahia Mar.
