Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report 5/7/2026 - Don't Tell Mom

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Weekly Fishing Report | Don't Tell Mom Sportfishing – South Florida

Fishing this past week continued to provide a great mix of action, and the biggest story was definitely the King Mackerel bite turning on. We saw a noticeable increase in Kingfish activity, with fish showing up along the reef and providing exciting strikes and fast-paced action for our anglers.

There were also Mahi-Mahi out deep, adding to the variety and giving us some great trolling action offshore.

The highlight of the week was an impressive 40-pound Cobia caught in 120 feet of water. Cobia are not a species we commonly see in our local waters, so this was a very exciting and unusual catch for both the crew and our guests. The fish put up an incredible fight and was definitely one of the standout catches of the season so far.

While the Sailfish and Blackfin Tuna action slowed down slightly, there are still fish around, and we expect another good push of both species soon as conditions continue to change.

The Bonitas have been biting very well, keeping rods bent and providing lots of steady action throughout the week. These fish are always a blast on lighter tackle and are great for anglers looking for consistent bites.

The wrecks have also been producing plenty of Barracuda and Amberjack, and with Grouper season officially open, we're looking forward to even more exciting bottom fishing opportunities moving into May.

Overall, fishing continues to be excellent, and May is traditionally one of the best months of the year for fishing in South Florida. With a wide variety of species around and conditions lining up nicely, now is a great time to get out on the water.

Spaces are filling up quickly, so don't wait to book your trip.
