Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

This football season came to an end with the Super Bowl, but players still practice even off season. Tony Scheffler, the 255 lb. 6'5" tight end for the Detroit Lions #85, with wife and father-in-law from Michigan chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL.

Tony requested to catch a "LARGE" fish, so off we went in pursuit of a Shark. I headed out south of Fort Lauderdale FL to an area that holds a couple of artificial wrecks that sit in 300-350 ft. of water, which has been producing Sharks this week. We had three Shark baits out, one on the surface, one mid range and one on the bottom and a kite with two live Goggle Eyes. The conversation went about his experience with the Detroit Lions and David, our mate, listen intensely. Thirty-five minutes slipped by – the bottom rod bent over, almost touching the covering boards – I knew this was going to be a BIG one. Tony hopped into the fighting chair in lighting speed as if he was blocking an opponent. He got all strapped in, as the battle began. For the first fifteen minutes, the fish never made an initial run. I knew the fish was not aware that he was hooked - swimming down deep at his leisure. With wife cheering him on, the action picked up as the fish realized he was hooked – the fish started to take line off the reel at a faster speed. The way the fight went on made me believe one thing – there was a 99% the fish hooked was a Thresher Shark – and a bid one at that. With an hour and fourteen minutes into the battle, the Shark finally made his appearance, and sure enough it was a Thresher Shark – 13 ft. long!!!!! What a fantastic battle this creature and angler put on. With Shark along the side of the boat, pictures were taken and Shark was released to fight again.
