Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak
As the sun was peering over the horizon with its reflection glimmering on the waters, it reminded me of how good it feels to live in sunny Fort Lauderdale for the past 40 years.
The Porter family from Fort Lauderdale and brother-in-law, Mr Brazeau, and son, Michael, from Michigan chartered the Happy Day Today with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea fishing off of Fort Lauderdale FL. Art Porter made a request to catch some Mahi Mahi's, so we left the dock in pursuit of Mahi Mahi's. Twenty minutes later the lines were in the water at Port Everglades sea buoy which sits in 120 ft. of water. I noticed there was no current at the sea buoy; from there I headed towards one of our artificial wrecks that sits in 250 ft. of water off of Fort Lauderdale. With no luck there, I ventured off shore another ½ a mile and found a current change with a rip and sargassum weed. If any place would hold Mahi Mahi's this area would.
We trolled to the northeast with one plainer down, with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon, 4 Ballyhoos and a yellow jap feather for surface baits. A half hour later, our first strike came, which was an 8 lb. Mahi Mahi, and Michael was the angler. From there I could see birds working the weed line. As I got closer to the birds, I could see the "green hornets" (Mahi Mahi) swimming around. With our first pass, no strike. I swung around and made another pass by them – this time we hooked up with two Mahi Mahi's, both gaffers. As the Mahi Mahi's were feeding now, we kept catching them. At this time Art was smiling knowing that he had plenty of fish to feed the family that night and left over's for the freezer. Time was running out on our four hour charter – it was time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale FL.
