Weekly Fishing Report | Don't Tell Mom Sportfishing – South Florida
Fishing over the past week has been excellent, with some very exciting action for our anglers. For most of the week we had a strong north current combined with an east wind, which really seemed to turn the bite on. When those conditions line up along the reef and offshore waters, the fish tend to get active—and that's exactly what we saw.
The highlight of the week was the great Mahi fishing, with multiple fish showing up throughout the area. It's always exciting to see these fish around, especially as we start moving toward spring patterns. Mahi are one of the most fun fish to catch, putting on incredible fights and making beautiful runs when hooked.
Blackfin Tuna were also plentiful, providing lots of fast-paced action. When schools of tuna move through the area it doesn't take long before the rods start bending, and our anglers had a blast battling these hard-fighting fish.
We also landed a really nice Wahoo, one of the fastest and most powerful fish in the ocean. Wahoo are known for their explosive strikes and blistering runs, making them a true prize whenever one shows up on the spread.
One of the most unique catches of the week was a huge Houndfish, which is a fairly rare catch in our waters. These fish are known for their long slender bodies and wild aerial jumps once hooked, making for an exciting and memorable fight.
We also battled a big Nurse Shark, giving our anglers a serious tug-of-war on the rod. These powerful sharks always put up a great fight and are a fun challenge on heavier tackle.
Along the reef and wrecks we caught a few Barracudas, which are always aggressive predators and great fighters. Closer to the beach, several Mackerel were caught in shallow water, adding even more steady action throughout the week.
With strong current continuing to push through the area and water temperatures gradually rising, fishing should remain productive in the days ahead. This time of year can bring an exciting mix of pelagic species and excellent opportunities for anglers looking to experience some great South Florida fishing.
