Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

We are still dealing with some dirty water from the larger amounts of rain we have had over the past weeks. When you can find the areas that have had slight movement to the north we have been catching fish in good numbers. The sailfish off Fort Lauderdale bit well this weekend with 2-10 shots a possiblility its as if we are still on our winter run. These fish have been biting best when we are in the faster moving water.
The blackfin tunas have been around in good numbers and suprisingly have stayed in the green water over the past couple of weeks. These fish have been in the 20-35lb range and are one of the harder fighting fish in the ocean.
In the same areas off Ft Lauderdale there are some kingfish around. Most of these have been on the smaller size but I have seen fish up to 40lbs int he last week. We have been catching them on live bait with speedos catching the biggest fish.
The bottom fishing has been really good in Ft. Lauderdale. Groupers though not as plentiful as the winter are still around in good numbers. We have been getting 2-3 fish an hour while fishing the wrecks. Also there are some nice sized muttons on the wrecks. We have caught fish from 4-12lbs in the last couple weeks. The wrecks in 80-130ft of water have been producing best for us. The bull sharks seem to be hanging to the north and so the cobia fishing has remained better to the north. When our charters have ended up north of Boca we have been seeing more sharks and thus more cobia as well. This past weekend we fished all the way up to Jupiter and the Bull Sharks were in full force on the deep ledge.
Dolphin have been on the reef as well as offshore. We have been caching good amounts of dolphin on the reef but nothing really big. Most of these fish have been in the 5-10lb range.
Swordfishing off Fort Lauderdale is consistent as usual. The seas kept everyone in this weekend but this week is looking a lot better for a chance to catch a swordfish both day and night.
