Having Fun Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks

Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this weeks report is great lots of great catches and some fantastic fishing right now in Fort Lauderdale so here we go. The fishing as of late has been absolutely fantastic lots of action and it should only continue to get better and better, on the offshore side of things tuna tuna tuna has been the main target as of late, early mornings and late afternoons have been very very good for these guys trolling with planners and seawitches is a fantastic way to target them also smaller lures like feathers fished on the surface far away from the boat have been a good option too, we have been catching a few tuna up to 25lbs a great fight, blackfin tuna are great on the dinner table also for fresh sushi or even seared quickly you can also boil the meat and mix it with mayo and fresh celery and make your own tuna salad which is one of my favorites. Other then tuna we have been seeing a few mahi mahi on windy days no actual size to these guys yet but its nice to seem them this early in the season. A few bonito in the mix as well not so good for the table but excellent fighters and they have great colors too. Once the tuna bite has slowed down wreck fishing for large bottom dwellers like amberjack has been very very good, shipwrecks just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale in depths up to 400 feet of water have been productive, live bait is key and heavy tackle is a must these guys can pull and will test your tackle and test you as an angler. Amberjack are so so on the table for dinner they do get worms in there meat so we try to release them and just catch them for the sport, but they are a great fight and something fun to catch for sure. On the inshore side of things bottom fishing has been slow somewhat, spring time is not great for deepwater snapper like vermillion and yelloweye but on days with light current and the right conditions we have been catching a few, something to look forward to is shark fishing that is something that will be getting very good in the next few weeks, hammerhead sharks should be prevalent in the waters just off the coat of Fort Lauderdale and are defiantly something fun to catch. All in all the fishing in Fort Lauderdale is hot and should get even hotter in the weeks to come make sure to check out some of the great pictures of some recent catches this week, also remember to follow us on social media platforms like Facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content.
