Fun Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
July 26, 2024
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week for our fishing report I would say that the fishing in Fort Lauderdale has still been somewhat good obviously some days are better then others but thats what makes you coming back for more. One day could be catching and the other day could be fishing. For the report this week starting on the inshore side of things just off the edge of the reef there has been plenty of bonitos to catch right now while trolling, the bonitos have been pretty aggressive and have been eating small spoons and mylar lures best, also mixed in with the bonitos there has been some larger kingfish as well as a few quality blackfin tunas. Staying on the reef as far as the bottom fishing goes there has been a pretty solid bite of yellowtail snappers right now just on the deeper side of the reef around 90 feet. Anchoring up and chumming is going to allow the fish to come to you, I would at least recommend a trip of 6 hours or longer because it does take some time to chum up the snappers. Smaller baits like silversides and cut pieces of ballyhoo are going to be the best baits right now specially for the yellowtail snappers. Also while anchored up and chumming its not uncommon to catch some cero mackeral as well as mangrove and mutton snappersl. Moving a little deeper to depths around 300 feet there has been a few vermillion snappers as well as some almaco jacks, the best conditions to target these fish is going to be calmer winds and a light north current. You need to be able to position the boat over the structure according to the conditions to be effective. Small pieces of bonito have been the best bait lately because the skin being so tough if you get a few bites you will still have some bait left. Offshore right now the best way to describe the mahi mahi bite would be hit and miss, if you can locate some bird activity the mahi are usually not far behind other then birds there has been some scattered weeds that are always worth trying as well as some floating debris, I still would recommend and all day charter if your looking to chase mahi and bringing live bait could be the difference between catching 3 mahi or catching 30. I would imagine as we get closer to august we will start to see more mahi action. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfsihing for daily fishing content. As we approach the month of august we have plenty of availability for some deep sea fishing so if your heading down to south Florida preferably Fort Lauderdale and looking for something to do, we would love to show you a great time on the water...
