Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Three young ladies from Texas, Jacklyn O'Donnell, Michelle O'Donnell and Gabe Yank, along with father, Kelly, and wife, chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some offshore sport fishing. With blue skies, variable winds and the sun gleaming, it was a perfect day to do some sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL.

We left the dock and twenty minutes later lines were in the water at our drop off that sits in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL. From there we started trolling with two plainers down – one with a double hook Mullet strip with a pink and blue sea witch in front and the other with a double hook Bonito strip with a blue and white sea witch. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos, two Bonito strips and a yellow jap feather. I started to troll the reefs, but there wasn't any current, so I headed further offshore to some of our deep artificial wrecks – one that sits in 420 ft. of water. With a couple of birds working the area, it looked pretty promising.

Our first two strikes were on our plainer rods with both fish pulling the hooks – no blame to the anglers, the fish were just lucky. We kept trolling the area – one of our surface baits got a strike as the line screamed off the reel. Jacklyn was the angler and brought in a 16 lb. Bonito, as Jackson, our mate, gaffed it and put the Bonito in the fish box. Michelle and Gabe were our next anglers, and they also caught and brought in same size Bonitos. Mom was the professional photographer on this trip, and she took pictures of all three fights. After these catches, we had a couple of more pulled hooks.

Everyone had a good time, but it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
