Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report
Since last Sunday, we've had some very nice customers, nice weather and some very nice quality fish. On Sunday, we had a front that pushed through and fishing was good. We were able to put goggle eyes on the kite and it paid off. Abby and Jimmy caught some big kingfish, a few bonito and a nice sailfish.
On Monday, Bob and his brother Jim Yannizze from New Hampshire joined us for a charter. The weather was a lot different from the day before - it was beautiful and sunny, but no wind at all and almost no current, but we did our work and Bob and Jim caught kingfish on the reef. Then we moved deeper looking for Mahi, but couldn't find them, so we came back inside on the reef and try a few top-water and mid-water baits, but no takers. So I decided to go deep again, but this time we were going to drop on some local wrecks. At the first stop, bob caught a nice amberjack. But with other anglers on the boat, I wanted to get something big for Jim as well, so we dropped another goggle eye, but it didn't get bit. So I moved to a different wreck, and this time Jim ended up with a nice cobia! On this day, fishing started very slow, but ended on a very good note with 2 nice fish and 2 very happy brothers.
In the middle of the week, we were joined by a nice family from Minnesota who drove 28 hours to visit their mom in Avon Park. They decided to come fishing with us and try saltwater fishing for the first time, and yes, we had a good time! We caught lots of kingfish and bonito, and also missed a lot of hits, but we joked and had a really fun day.
On Friday afternoon, we were joined again by some very nice customers - twin brothers Ryan and Steven, and their dad Larry, from Connecticut. I heard of some sailfish being caught up north so I decided to go in that direction. The trip north produced 1 of 3 sailfish, and a Mahi for dinner. I wish we could have brought all 3 sailfish to the boat for a picture, but 2 of them got away after a few jumps. We will always try very hard for our customers.
