Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Aug 15
Today we fished with Doctors Susan and Larry and their children Joyce and Jason all from Chicago.
We started out trolling the reef catching some bonitos with our planner boards.
Than we tried some deep drops on some wrecks with no luck.
Ok so fishing was slow but since we already had some fish in the box we decided to go for the big ones.
We set out both kites with 3 live baits suspended from the kites along with one shark bait also suspended from the kites.
We also set 2 more shark baits out one about 150 feet down and a last one down 350 feet on the bottom.
I would love nothing more than to tell you about this big fish we ended up with but due to the full moon the bite was on the slow side and we never did get the big bite we were hopping for.
Guy's thanks again for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we had some of our regular customers/friends out for a few hours of deep-sea fishing off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.
We had Mickey and her friend Howard and her three kids Samantha, Daniel and last but not least the tough little angler in the family Aaron.
What I really should say is that Aaron brought along his family because Aaron is truly the fisherman in the family and it seems that even if fishing is slow Aaron always seems to pull some kind of sea monster out of the ocean. Today was no exception.
We started out trolling our way to the north on the reef catching bonitos one after another.
Once we got off the cost of Pompano we brought in the trolling gear and set out some shark baits looking for a bull shark to add to Aaron collection. But today it was just not meant to be so once again we switched to another type of fishing.

We went over a shipwreck and caught some small bonitos and set them back out a live with a couple of hooks in them. We slow trolled these (What we call bullets) around between 200 and 300 hundred feet of water. All of a sudden BAM one of the rods bent over and line started screaming off the reel. We were Hooked Up and Aaron jumped in the chair. The Fight Was On.
15 min later Aaron had done it once again by landing a 58-inch Wahoo.
I don't know how he seems to pull a lucky rabbit out of his hat all most every time Aaron fish's with us but we'll take luck any day of the week over skill.
As we pulled back to the dock we had our afternoon trip eager to give their luck a shot at some deep-sea fishing aboard the Hooked Up.
We had Dennis and Chris from Toronto Canada and Dave and Steven from Conn.
Once again we started out trolling catching bonitos.
This time we caught some more bullets and slow trolled them over a shipwreck. Within seconds one of the rods started screaming out line and we were Hooked Up again.
10 min later Dennis had his trophy barracuda to the boat. Well if it worked once way not try it again and sure enough BAM we got Hooked Up again. This time Dave ended up catching a big trophy barracuda.
What a great day of fishing we want to thank all of our anglers for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we fished with Heather, Cathy and Sherri from Milwaukee Mack from Mass Dave from Virginia and Christina from New Jersey.
Once again we went right to trolling the reef with 2 planner boards running about 45 to 50 feet deep and 3 baits skipping across the surface.
We ended up catching bonitos one after another and having a ball catching them.
Guy's thanks again you guys were a ball to fish with.

As we got back to the dock we had Jackie and Benjamin from Staten Island New York out for a few hours of deep-sea fishing and yes once again the bonitos were biting like mad dogs.
Thanks again to all of our anglers today for fishing with us aboard the Hooked Up.

Today we had a father's day gift for Mike and Ariel who brought along his son Brendon and his 2 daughters Samantha and Celeste all from Pembroke Pines in Florida.
We started out trolling the reef catching bonitos one after another.
However these guys Mike and Ariel had done plenty of fishing in the past and what they really wanted was some fish for the table. So the decision was made to go off shore and try to find some dolphin fish. Now as I have said in the past it really has been an off year for dolphin to say the least.
But all the same off we went looking north and looking south but with no luck finding these darn dolphin fish.
We were headed back in when I had a last min brain storm and started looking threw my GPS and I noticed that we were just about a mile away from this deep spot I knew of that had produced some good eating fish for us in the past.
Well we had nothing to lose so we brought in all the trolling gear and set up to try some deep drops (800 feet deep).

I got good new and I got bad news the good news was that we stated catching some Black Belly Rose fish the bad new was I did not think of it till the last second and we really only had time to do a couple of drops and only ended up with 4 of them.
BUT now that they got a chance to try them I'm sure they will be back for more. (They are great eating)
We catch these fish with an electric reel so it's not like a great sport fish to catch but once you sink your teeth into one you see right away why they are worth it.
Guys thanks again and I know we will be seeing you guys again soon.

Hi my name is Taco and I run one of the best charter fishing boats down here in South Florida. WHY? Because I’ve been fishing the waters down here since 1969 and I started at the bottom and worked my way up the ladder. I know what it is like to read a web site and than once you get to boat things are not as you thought they would be. Not here I say it like it is. No surprises. I’ve got a 45 foot Hatteras with a big cock pit. Fully aircondishened and refrigerated. Big comfortable platform.
