Lots of Action and Variety on Our Ft Lauderdale Fishing Charters

Wow, what a week. The fishing action continues with more awesome catches of everything that swims. Just about every technique we're fishing out there is working. Trolling action is good on kingfish, tunas, mahi-mahi and even an unexpected wahoo or sailfish. Bottom fishing around the 200-300ft deep shipwrecks is good right now for amberjacks, almaco jacks, vermillion snappers and some big groupers. Shark fishing is still a good bet with some nurse sharks, dusky sharks and even a big hammerhead being caught when fishing our big bloody baits on the bottom. We haven't had much opportunity to go kite fishing over the past week with very little wind but the forecast for the weekend looks like it will be enough wind to go out and try the kites. With the strong winds predicted tomorrow and Sunday, I foresee good kite fishing action on sailfish and big mahi-mahi. All in all, there's been a lot of fish biting and lots of variety no matter what flavor you'd like to try.

November is generally one of our best months for big game species. Sailfish are our most popular and sought after gamefish that we catch when fishing the Fort Lauderdale coast. They are truly awesome fish to catch and most fights with sailfish result in an incredible jumping display from them. Sailfish average 7 ft long and are one of the most beautiful big game fish in the ocean. They have colors of gold, navy blue, light blue, electric blue, purple and silver, plus a mix of mother-of-pearl in the belly. They have black dots all over their enormous dorsal fin, the large sail they have on their back (hence their name). They have the largest dorsal fin of any billfish. Sailfish season is here and they are starting to bite great.

Not every day is a banner day, we still have our slow days from time to time. But the average catch this month far surpasses the average catch for almost the entire rest of the year. April and May still beat November, but not by much. On a slow day of trolling (which is rare), we usually hit the wrecks with either live baits or chicken rigs. Live baits are best for catching amberjacks, almaco jacks and big groupers. Chicken rigs are best for snappers and smaller groupers. You can turn a slow day into a great day in the last hour of the trip by hitting a shipwreck that's holding some fish. That's the great thing about fishing, anything can happen at any moment so your slowest day of fishing could become your best day of fishing in the final moments of the trip.

Good luck to everyone fishing this week. There's good fish to be had, you just need to wet a line and don't forget to bring your luck. Sea ya on the water.
