Mahi Mahi and Bottom Fishing in Fort Lauderdale

Capt. Vinnie Sacks
September 4, 2021
Fort Lauderdale - Saltwater Fishing Report

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here this week we have had some great action offshore and the fish we have been targeting mostly Is dolphin. We have been doing really good on the mahi this week, seems that most of the fish have come up from the keys and are right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale now. Like I always say finding something to fish to is always key. There isn't much floating debris or seaweed offshore right now but there is plenty of dolphin and the smallest thing you can find has been holding plenty of bait and the dolphin are right behind it. Right now the dolphin have been very finicky eaters and live bait is key its making a huge difference in catch ratios from catching 7 fish with out live bait to catching over 30 with live bait. The mahi have been anywhere from 700-900 feet of water off the coast of Fort Lauderdale that's about 7-9 miles out. All day trips are best for targeting these fish but it can be done in a 3/4 day as well. Moving inshore on the troll there have been some kingfish as well as Bonito and blackfin tuna on the edge. Trolling planners with seawitches and Bonito strips is always productive for these species. Bottom fishing in the deeper reefs and wrecks has been very very good for snapper like mutton, live ballyhoo is the king of baits for that but fresh cut bait works well for them too. We did get a few gag grouper this week as well while fishing the deeper reefs. We even had some dolphin come and hang out around the boat when we were bottom fishing in 180 feet which is always a nice surprise. This week we have great pictures of the excellent fishing we have been having so make sure you check those out. There is plenty of availability this week and next week so if your coming down to the fort lauderdale area please check us out if your looking to go deep sea fishing. As always remember to follow us on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing videos and reports. Tight lines Capt. Vinnie 954 559 4700
