Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Eric, a local resident here in Fort Lauderdale, FL had some close friends, Bob and Andrea, come down from Minnesota to vacation and enjoy some deep sea sport fishing aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. We had winds out of the northwest at 8 mph, seas running 2-3 ft. with intermittent clouds.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in the water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL located in 120 ft. of water. A quarter of a mile further to the east, you will find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off. We put two plainers down, one with a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon and the other with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hook Bonito strip. For surface baits, we went with four Ballyhoos.

As I trolled the reef, we caught two Kingfish and 11 Bonitos. I noticed a color change in 180 ft. of water off of north Fort Lauderdale, so we set up to do live baiting with two kites out with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. The anglers discussed good memories of their younger days back in Minnesota while waiting for our first strike, which was a his and hers Mahi Mahi, one on the left short and the other on the right short. Bob and Andrea were our anglers and they brought in their Mahi Mahi's both in the 8 lb class. From there we caught two more Mahi Mahi's which Eric will serve for dinner tonight for his guests.

As our guests retired in the A/C salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale Fl. 33316, I passed three large schools of Mullets in 80 ft. of water migrating to the south. This is a great indication that our Sailfish would not be too far behind.
